Well that's it. Uniforms all washed and pressed, shoes cleaned, PE bags packed, children bathed, hair washed, bus passes located, lunch cards* located, homework checked and although in places incorrect my job is to see that it is completed. The school have the task of correcting it  . We are, as far as possible, ready. Oh yes and all this achieved whilst Mrs S has been driving her mother home ~ after the most pleasant week I can recall 
Will I get brownie points? ~ Don't be silly! There will be something I have forgotten. 









*For those that have not seen them the kids up here get a credit/debit card type of thingy that the parents charge up by sending in a cheque or claiming free meals if appropriate and the kids can then swipe the card through at the lunch room check out to pay for their meals ~ a cash free society which stops bullying for lunch money in it's tracks. The cards ARE NOT accepted at the local chippy either!!!

That sounds like a really good idea.  if I read it correctly, the 'free' meals become invisible?  It was a constant source of problems in the past along with the 'Gimme your money or I'll beat you up" variety.

'cactly ..... and there is a four pounds a day limit on the cards although the standard "free meal is ?1.75 (Main course, sweet and drink) they can also buy fruit, snacks, designer water etc from the canteen. The vending machines having now been removed the kids have no need to carry money at all. Only years 11 and 12 (5th and 6th form) are allowed out of school at lunch time and the lunch hour has been reduced to forty minutes to stop the rest from being able to leave the premises.
Parents can pay weekly or termly by cheque but the card will still only be credited with the daily amount the parent stipulates. Menus are available ~ as is a print out, on request from parent, of what the child has bought each day so it's easy to keep an eye on what they are eating enabling closer control over diet provided at home. eg if they have chips at school you can feed them salad for an evening meal. Though you show me a teenager who isn't permanently hungry

And don't think I haven't heard similar from the daughter. Her scam is that she gets her boyfriend (who is sixth form) to pay for fish n chips ('cos he can go into town) and they "spend" her card on cakes and crisps and stuff like that.

Curiously they don't have one of those ..... A mother at the meeting I attended asked and was emphatically told that the received opinion was that to provide such a machine would be tantamount to "official approval" of the children having sexual relations. Give her credit, she immediately hit back with "So are you going to bring up the little bastards that result?" Again the meeting was swiftly moved on. I guess that a number of us there were marked down as trouble makers and we have never been invited back.

You can't have roll-call because there is no dignity in it and yet it is OK to have electronic surveillance on the kids
all the time to keep track of them. 

Is that supposed to be less demeaning because it's less visible?

Remove discipline and replace it with snooping. What a great idea, grooming the kids for a lifetime of anti-social behaviour because they can do anything they want and then let them wonder why they have a never-ending supply of anonymous fixed penalty fines mailed for offences caught on camera.

All in all, I'd go for the discipline!

I wouldn't be teacher for anything today.

My 2 are back to exams and high stress.  I don't remember such stress when I was 11 and 13!  Things are so competitive and I just can't be bothered with the competitivenessositything any more!
