Made it with no problems. Been driving far too long to do anything stupid (famous last words) but I have done the advanced courses etc over the years and know how to control a skid and all that stuff ~ unlike the twat buried nose first in the hedge at the roadside frantically reving his engine whilst his front wheel drive vehicle dug itself deeper and deeper into the slush and mud.

Discretion being the better part of valour I drove on but feeling guilty did pick up a hitchhiker on the way back and gave him a lift home. Not the same man who was by now standing in the falling snow watching as a local tow truck hauled his car out of the hedge.

We 'have' to work at least 1 day a week at home - new Clown school policy to free up office space. We have laptops , VPN and have also been given mobiles that act as landlines which confuses the hell out of the public when they ring a landline number and you're on a bus and it's amazing how many times the signal is too bad to hear whistle:
-
Phones can be diverted but when my last employer tried that it always rang when I was on the bog.
As for the tea making ~ I never suffered from a shortage of tea when working at home. lol:
The biggest (serious for a moment) problem was (and I suspect still is) that most employers (managers) are control freaks who cannot stand the thought that you are out of their sight and thus out of their control.
Despite a senior rank and more service than most whenever I was out of the office my MD would find "reasons" to call me to find out "How the figures look today" or "Who is it you are meeting today" or "You looked a bit down last night in the pub ~ everything OK?" Pure control freakery!
Now remember that my job was as a sales manager thus my task was to go out and seek clients, talk to them, assess their needs, design and present costed solutions for those needs at a profit to my employer so it was annoying to say the least to be pursued around the country by this maniac who wanted to know where I was every minute of the day.
In the end, whenever he was out of the office and I or one of my colleagues was in we took to ringing him asking the most inane questions about company policy and the like. He never did get the message and in fact our scheme backfired as he became even more convinced of his own indispensibility. Eventually the board got shot of him and we got a better MD who understood that if left alone we worked better and produced results ~ after all no salesman is of any more value than the profit on his last sale.

Then self employment is for you! ;D
Many of us do it you know ~ and it is most satisfying to be able to work when you want, how you want, doing what you like. Tho' technically retired and in receipt of pension etc I do voluntary work (mainly fund raising for charities), write a bit, edit the community magazine, play on here, the odd bit of consultancy (mainly writing reports and stuff like that these days) but I can be choosey when and how I do it all.
No pay of course ~ just expenses ;)
Friend of mine (lives across the road) chooses to work "California Hours" as much of his dialogue with clients is transatlantic so at 3am his office (back bedroom) lights are blazing and all his emails to me are timed in the wee small hours. At about 6am he goes for a walk, has something to eat and falls into bed, rising mid afternoon to do the housework (he has a disabled wife) and watch some TV. He starts work at about 11pm. Sometimes he works like blazes for a straight 24 or even 36 hours and then takes a few days off. He is in software design.

It's getting better here ;D Tonight, freezing fog to begin with. Then - apparently - about 3am, more snow. When I eventually managed to get my car out of the pub car park (it's been there since Sunday night) today, I drove it home and it is now nicely nestled by the house. Walking up to the pub, the snow/ice had that "squidgy" feeling you get as a thaw starts to set in.
After getting the car home, I returned to the pub about 3.30pm and already, the squidgy snow/ice was starting to re-freeze. Walking back from the pub at 6pm (ish) it was really crunchy. The freezing fog is settling and freezing on impact, lots of it on the snow turned ivory compacted by the few cars that make it through the side roads. So we now might have fresh snow on top of sheet ice on top of compacted frozen snow. All pavements in the area are nothing short of lethal as they are - a fresh fall of snow may actually help to gain purchase on these, but the roads, but 5am tomorrow are likely to be pretty iffy.
And the Council is out of grit/salt.
Luckily, I managed to get the shopping done this morning (in Mrs TMR (to be))'s car so we won't starve. And we have lots of red wine. We may yet survive this lol:
-
I was wondering how long a person can survive on cheesy wotsits and brown sauce?

About 59 seconds GOS lol:

I woke up to another 3-4" of snow 0500 today. The frst part of my journey normally takes 3 minutes. This morning it took 25 minutes. I got stuck twice, 3 x HGV's stuck in the first 1.5 miles, Police were closing the road as I reached town, not the best start to the day. Right now, it's pissing down, but at just after midnight it's due to turn to snow. We have 2 to 4" forecast with 6 to 8" expected "locally" wherever that is

I haven't had any post all week - I'm sure the credit card companies will be understanding when the payments are late noooo:
They all have the same story on this one ~ "It is the responsibilty of the customer to make due payments on time"
"But, but, but I haven't received the account from you yet, because of the postal delays caused by the snow"
"Then madam, may I suggest that you sign this Direct Debit mandate under which we will take from your account the minimum payment every month and that way you will NEVER make a late payment ~ which I would remind you is going to cost you a LATE PAYMENT FEE! ~ You are of course at liberty to pay additional payments at anytime"

Just been to the shop to get a few odds and sods. It was like an ice rink in town, at least most slow down for the snow, not so when it's icy point:

Aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!!! I've only just come down off the ceiling after seeing that pillock on telly this morning
I'd say that 95% of the rock salt supplies in this country is kept under cover in salt barns. For the other 5%, it's outdoors but covered with plastic sheeting to keep it dry. So ITV found what must be the only salt heap in the country that was out in the open and uncovered... 2,000 tonnes of it, open to the elements, being diluted everytime it rained etc Banghead As the salt is diluted it leaves are pockets in the pile, and rabbits also create voids, making the pile unstable, thats why there are signs stating do not walk/climb on the pile Banghead Banghead . So there he was clambering over the salt pile, talking to the camera about this "grit" throughout. Boy, did he piss me off cussing: cussing: cussing:
And because they haven't enough library footage from the last 20 years ::) , they're coming around one of our depots on Friday to record the same stuff they record each year, here's a gritter, heres some SALT, here's a snow-blower, and here where it is all controlled from ::)
