Let's face it, we seem to be in serious shit.
What is happening where you are, what are you doing and what appear to be the prospects?

Nuffin really...
Food shops are open, shelves full last time I went...
Can't do anything, bars, DIY shops, hospitals, etc. closed...
All over hyped IMHO...
-
Yes, I started this as a thread to go on for however long it takes...
Spain was shut yesterday. My mates in France are confined to home. There is more to come here in the next few days.

We're just doing very little, what was a very busy week for us became a week of cancelled events. And frankly we're lucky, our 80+ year old neighbour I fetched medicine for is keeping a stiff upper lip but with his underlying conditions and the inability of the supply chain to source all his medicine
Is this over hyped? IMHO no. We're all playing catch up with Italy but catch up we will even if they get worse. The current 10% death rate of resolved cases is scary and for it to get down to that supposed 1% needs another 800,000 cases with not one more death. The first will happen, the latter would be nice but come on
2020 is going to be a defining year for everybody, just hopefully not in a terminally way for too many or anyone we know

Tesco order just arrived. About a third of items (9 out of 24) not available and no substitute available either. Feeling guilty that we did an online order as an email flooded in from Tescos this afternoon saying please don't do that unless you're self isolating or particularly vulnerable redface:
Everything that did arrive got wiped with Dettol wipes (been doing that since Monday) and the surface got the same
All fun and games

Already seen a hotel for sale 11 million ....... rubschin:

Tourism is Cornwall's primary industry, God only knows how businesses are going to survive. I can already see the strong possibility of the remaining hotels in Falmouth closing and ultimately being bought up to turn into either retirement accommodation or even more student housing.

I rather think we are in pause mode for at least 3 months and financial issues will be irrelevant until then. Borrow or steal what you need to get through the next 12 weeks in the uk and we will see where we are then. Forget economic issues ... read a book learn some poetry say nice things. Those are the important issues today. angel1

What feels weird here is that in Spain, from Sat afternoon onwards, the streets emptied of cars and people. Madrid looked like a scene from On the Beach. In Nottingham earlier the roads were full and there were people everywhere.
Miss D might confirm that people in queues for shops and checkouts in Spain were standing about 9 feet apart. Not here!!

Yep ...signs up in shops to say one at a time and a metre apart. Public transportation halved although traffic evident when going to the airport at 'rush hour' on Tuesday morning as travel allowed to get to work or to provide supplies to shops etc.
We will be on lock down in the next few days whistle:

Universities won't suffer as they get their £9250 a year and many now offer unconditional offers (££££££££££s). GCSEs will have to go on grade predictions.
-
I'm not sure that there are many facts he can give out that isn't going to basically say we are fucked and I suspect the only thing he's going to be able to do regarding school exams is to postpone them till the crisis is over or at least manageable.
The biggest problem is the weakness of globalisation. For years because of cheap labour costs China has been the primary supplier of the precursor chemicals used in most medication not to mention general medical equipment. And now the Chinese government is using that for political leverage. Ultimately this needs to change even if it just means having limited local production facilities that can easily be ramped up and expanded when needed.

The biggest change for me is working from home as I am in the people "who are at increased risk of severe illness" grouping according to PHE. Amazing at how much more I can get on with without the constant, "I dont suppose you remember when... Do you have..." type interruptions over your shoulder all day long; but I do miss having a bigger screen ;)
Collecting medication from the Dr's was a little weird. A desk placed between the two sets of automatic doors with a sign, "STOP", do not pass go etc. The receptionist coming from the office towards the desk asking " What can I do for you?" She got the medication and told me she was going to slide it across the desk to me
I came too close to the reality of the virus last week. Two weeks ago dad (86) had a heart block, collapsed injuring his nose, chest, shoulder and leg, and it took two hours for the ambulance to arrive. He had another last week and was rushed to hospital within 20 minutes this time. As they arrived at the hospital he had a heart attack, the crash team came running leaving my mum and two sisters wondering what was happening for 45 minutes before they said they had him "sorted". He was in resuss for a few hours then they took him across to the heart care unit. On arriving there he had a further heart attack, and again the crash team performed superbly. I was on a training course 200+ miles away when my sister called from outside A & E, I'll never forget hearing those sirens in the background as another ambulance arrived, I thought she was in the ambulance with dad and said "Dad's in a bad way" through her tears
I dashed up to Manchester to see dad and family, stopped there a couple of days till he was stronger, through the worst, and returned. On Saturday (I think) dad and two others picked up an "infection" which the staff thought was Covid and they were all put in isolation. It was four days before he got the negative results for Covid, and has now been returned to the heart care unit. As the days have passed he has been taken off the morphine (cracked ribs), oxygen mask removed, then later the oxygen tubes removed from the nostrils, he is finally eating, and all that remains now is that he can pee. Once that has occurred (a current concern for the Dr's, he can be moved to a "normal" ward. The last 10 days have been worrying to say the least

If you see a note (was emailed to me, also on Faceache) purporting to be an internal NHS document (some sources claim from St George's hospital) about how you can tell and how hot drinks keep you safe then it is a fake
As St Georges' Hospital put's it: We’re aware of inaccurate advice circulating on #COVID19 claiming to be from “St George’s Hospital” about detection and prevention of #coronavirus
This is not accurate, nor official guidance from the Trust.
For up to date, official advice please visit http://nhs.uk/coronavirus
https://twitter.com/StGeorgesTrust/status/1241023483414556777
And FullFact and the Beeb have shredded some of its claims:
https://fullfact.org/online/viral-posts-sharing-symptoms-and-treatments-covid-19-contain-false-information/
https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20200319-covid-19-will-drinking-water-keep-you-safe-from-coronavirus
One of it's claims is a temperature 10oC below body temperature kills it. ::) FFS how stupid do they think Facebook readers are?
rubschin: very stupid

After three days of heading to Sainsburys, seeing empty shelves on the first two occasions, and not even bothering to try and get in the car park on the third visit, it seems that common sense has at last prevailed
I was there 0815hrs today, half empty car park, fresh meat, fruit, veg shelves 80% full, there was even dried pasta, but no tinned veg or toilet rolls. A massive change. Please let it continue

Neighbour downstairs just knocked on the door. Lovely lad from Lithuania. Due to the situation, he is returning home and needs to empty his place - basically come and take anything you want, fridge, freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, coffee thingy (proper jobbie) TV etc.
He, his wife and newborn baby are getting a Wizz Air flight to Bucharest and then somehow getting home from there. noooo: noooo: noooo:

Considering I have one ex who turned out to be a complete nutjob that thought that Fatal Attraction was an instruction manual rather than a film I think some poor bastard may have just discovered Hell on earth.

Cheers Darwin. He came home Tuesday evening. The doctors were worried as a number of Covid cases were in the hospital and he would be safer at home than there. He's over the moon to be home and although very weak, he's loads better than he was last week. I spoke to him last night cloud9: so great to hear his voice for a few minutes. At 86, his recovery will be slow, but he's moving in the right direction

Very interesting question ..seen online ... rubschin:
"Is there any virologists out there that can answer me this question...
If the world goes into a lockdown and it brings an end to Covid 19, will it also bring an end to other viruses such as Chickenpox, Flu, Common Cold etc for a sustained period?
Edit: I am in no way comparing Covid 19 to these other viral infections.
I am merely asking if social distancing will also have an effect on other viruses.
There is no real historical precedent for this, where the entire planet has implemented social distancing.
Surely other viruses will be hit hard by these measures too."

very good question
It is a good question, but I suspect the answer is 'no'.
The isolation will not eliminate Covid 19, it will just slow the rate of spread so that the relatively small proportion of serious cases which require hospitalisation will not all occur in a short period of time and overrun the healthcare system.
I think the reality is that it will persist in the population until it runs out of non-resistant victims and the morbidity rate will stay about the same, but the daily numbers will reduce and be less newsworthy.
