You going to feel all sad saying goodbye to the Fusion then? sad24:
Served you well after all these years ey?

Not the most dynamic car ever built, but I never hear anything particulary bad about them tbh.

'Chopping' it in or selling privately?

We'll need piccies of the new one when it arrives btw,  but blank the no. plate off don't forget

The Fusion has been a good car but has become a bit of a 'banger' during the past year or so; I won't miss it.

Selling private is too much of a palaver imo ~ got a reasonal part exchange

Still waiting...

It's been built but I'm beginning to think they've mislaid it.

Well what's the main stealer got to say about it then? Shrugs:

Has it actually been imported into SGB yet?

Apparently, the days of airfields and other such storage/holding area compounds have gone now.
Everything is ordered for delivery once the cussie has signed....so I've been told.

Still, another 10 days...if it drags on that long... and it'll be registered as a 2013 model, making it werth slightly more £££££ or ppppp's when you come to sell it in the future.

Not good enough imo.
Probably not arsed now as office parties are taking precedence I suppose. evil:

Whole bastard cuntry seemingly stops for this shite. Banghead

Personally speaking like, I'd be giving them the full GROWLER 'down the banks' rant. Just my opinion of course.
I'd also be telling them to offer some sort of sweetner, like free servicing or summat.
If it wasn't going to be here for mid December (now lateish) , they should have made that clear from the outset.

Don't let it drag on UM. That's exactly what they'll be hoping you'll do....without a fuss.
Give us yer munny, now sod off attitude.
I know, I hear and witness this all the time.

Prolly best to stay calm and go with Growler's suggestion of a 2013 plate. The salesman is looking for commission in January to pay off his plastic bill used over Crimble.

Salesman normally like to see their cars go out by the end of the month, especially if they're near their target.

I was reading last night that the option of a 13 OR 62 plate from 01/03 to 01/09is no longer going to be offered or available.
DVLA hae now had a cjhange of heart and don't want to spoil the continuity or some other such shite, but they're going to offereing cut price non date related registration numbers instead, ::)  to those that are supersticious about the  number 13 ::)

Nowt to do with now seeing yet another opportunity for raking more dosh in...of course, oh no no no, perish the thought. noooo:

It seems that my car was one of a batch that had a problem in the engine, I know not what, I'm waiting on an e-mail. It got recalled to the factory and won't be released until mid January. I left the salesman with a flea in his ear and a demand for some 'sweetners' as compensation.

I'd be asking them some serious questions as to WHY yours is being delayed if the fault is with the stop and start system that yours won't be having.

They'll have some lousy standard excuse no doubt, like your was booked in for delivery with a load of s&s models, and the computer wouldn't accept any ammendments...or some such other random load of nonsense. ::)

All cars with the s&s technology have a switch to turn it off completely if you so desire.

You have to physically take the car out of gear and into neutral before the engine will cut out.
As soon as you dip the clutch, the car starts up again.

Well if you opt for it remain 'abled'. the engine will stop every time you come to a halt, put the handbrake on,  dip the clutch,  and take it out of gear.
Disable it and it will act like any other car, and remain running until you physically turn the ignition off.

I used to drive into London (and out again) every day from Maidenhead...

The damned car would have had to start itself up about 500 times a day...

Surely you'd be changing the battery much more frequently than in a 'normal' car...?

Or have I missed the point...? Shrugs:

I remember this being shown on the telly years ago and thinking at the time that it was all a bit pointless...

I remember someone brought out a different system (Audi?) where the ECU simply shot down a number of cylinders when they were not needed - it was on a big owld V8 lump tho...

I just found this!  eeek:

Quote
Yes, you just read that right: the current generation of stop-start systems lose half of their benefits after two weeks. Which means they’re great for juicing up scores on Europe’s urban-efficiency test, but they are as good as useless for the vast majority of the life of the vehicle (we already knew they were less-effective in cold weather). In an industry that typically validates equipment for hundreds of thousands of miles of useable life, this is nothing short of shocking. Especially when you jump ahead and find out the OEM response to these concerns

from here... (http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2011/06/the-shocking-truth-about-start-stop-systems/)

Will be interesting...

I can see the appeal to the manufacturer - small extra cost (passed on to the consumer and justified with extra mpg) with significant improvement in those all important ( ::)) emissions figures...

But common sense tells us that it must significantly increase wear and tear on the mechanical parts and battery - cost picked up by consumer and extra maintenance fees paid to the manufacturer.

And of course the sickening bottom line is that consumers wouldn't give a fuck about mpg if the gubberment didn't add 60% tax to every gallon...

From what I gather, the  artery is an upgraded version of the non start stop car and should cope adequately.
Likewise, the starter motor is also a more robust unit.
No idea about the flywheel but I guess that it will have been looked at by the designers/engineers

Uprated battery, starter, charge state monitoring and in some cars, smart charging regime all contribute to the system. In these cars, the battery is larger in my experience and is well looked after. My Mini Cooper D had the stop start system and I had no issues with battery or starting system in 153,000 miles.

Fifth gear did a test of a megane with stop start, fuel economy was increased by approx 10% but after sitting at road work traffic lights for 2 minutes the car restarted itself because battery was getting too low running the electrics etc.

Cant imagine it will do the engines any long term good, increased wear to starter etc. I would have thought firing a closed cylinder rather than starter motor would be a better way to start back up

Mazda have such a system I believe...  rubschin:

Quote
Idling stop systems save fuel by automatically shutting down the engine when the vehicle is static, and restarting it when the vehicle returns to motion. While conventional idling stop systems rely on a starter motor to restart the engine, Mazda's i-stop restarts the engine through combustion: fuel is directly injected into a cylinder while the engine is stopped and ignited to generate downward piston force. The result is a quick and quiet engine re-start compared to other systems, and a significant saving in fuel.

Stop/Start batteries are differant to your average car battery and are designed to cope with the drain from the starter motor,

The battery is constantly monitored by sensors to how much life it has in it, volvos have to be 70% charged for stop start to work and if there is to much current been pulled or weathers to cold it won't stop,

TBH its a pain as for mr rep its fine as the cars used regular but for the oaps etc who just use car to go to shops and back twice a week then wonder why it doesn't work

No news on my car yet, apparently the paint job didn't go well so they are having to do it again.  Seemingly their telephone skills are just as bad as they have not once yet been able to ring me and update me.  They have had it at their garage since 18th December.   noooo:

Does it 'CLAIM' to have leather by any chance? rubschin:

It'd more than likely to be VINYL if so, albeit with a fancy name. ::)

Have you asked the question "is it REALLY leather"?
What's the sales brochure say? rubschin:

Believe me, unless they've changed the material fairly recently, it really is utter crrap.

I generally only work on cars that are 2/3+ years old so haven't seen in a new one recently.

This crap material seems to start disintigrating on ALL manufacturers vehicles after 25k and or 3 years, so be warned.

Kia recently got into trouble under the Trades Description Act due to mis-describing it in their sales literature.

Update:

I've had a transcript of the email exchanges between the dealer and Ford progress. They are still saying that it's the Stop Start function that necessitated the recall. last message from them:

"The concern was not with the Start Stop Button but the Start Stop Function which is on all of the Eco-Boost B-Max vehicles.
When your vehicle is idling at a standstill, the engine automatically shuts down to save on fuel consumption. When you want to drive off, the engine immediately restarts."

Not what it says in the brochure.

Asked again for clarification.

Meanwhile, vehicle is still shown on tracking as 'compounded'

You've had it a month now, so lets's be hearing a progress and road test report to compare it to the jerrrnulists opinions, yes?
Young G Jnr's getting a new Ford today too btw. Same size engine as what's in yours iirc

Anyway:

Generally very pleased with the motor. It's well built, plenty of room inside but feels like a much smaller car. Driving position is comfortable and the dash and dials are well laid out (see pic). The sliding rear doors and lack of door pillars is a good idea, would have been real handy when the sprogs were tiny. Though it does mean all the doors are very heavy. Engine is tiny! (see pic) 3 cylinders and only 998cc ~ Maybe a bit underpowered but OK for the sort of motoring I do. I'm of to Oxford tomorrow so it'll a be a chance to see how it does on the motorway.

About the only thing that annoys me is that the rear gets very dirty, very quickly. Must be something to do with the airflow.

Most excellent mini report that UM.

I luv REAL life customerreports, not what jernalists are told to say, usually vie bungs from the mnanufacturers. ::)

G Jnr is just going now to pick his similar engined 3 pot 1.0 ecoboost Festa up.
He's all excited and looking forward to monster fuel economy too.

Had to paty EXTRA for white! Shocked:
Seems it's THE colour to have now according to statistics, whicm I think (cynically of course) may be the reason for the price hike.

He's very old thinking  for a 20yr old! lol:
Most excellent however. cloud9:

Tell you summat UM. This new engine is the 'dogs' in'it?  eeek:
Like a lickle sewing machine it is. lol:

Young G Jnr is well happy and very proud of his new car, and it really does look lovely both inside and out. Suits white too.

His mother kicked off at him for buying it, but I jumped straight in to his defence and told her to shut her beak, as he deserves it. evil:

He doesn't drink, smoke, pub or club it, he worls exceptionally hard for long hours sometimes too, getting in in the early hours, cleans after himself AND US around the house and garden, washes and polishes the fleet and is generally someone to be extremelly proud of...which I most certainly am. cloud9:

He told me last night that the 'puter said that he got over 70mpg driving it home btw!   Shocked:

My car has fancy electric seats that "pair" with the keys, so when Mrs DS uses her key, it automatically moves seat and steering wheel to her preferred position.

All very well until I pick up her key to nip to the shop and get jammed under the dash and crushed against the wheel. redface:

Just been rereading this thread; I wonder how Growler is these days.

Anyway, 8 years later, just had the old motor collected for a service/MOT. Still looks like new. Although I'm not allowed to drive at the moment (medical reasons) I'll probably keep it as it's not going to be worth much if I sell it. Low mileage, only did 399 miles since the last MOT; Lockdown and illness saw to that.

Never mind, shame though.

Car just returned. Garage owner interested in buying it as his missus has mobility problems and with the siding door rear doors and no central pillar it's easy to get in and out of.

I'm thinking of selling Kia-Ora next year... She'll be 4, have 3 years manufacturer's warranty and 2 years MoT (plus some new tyres)...

My Merc is 6 and a half and still hasn't done 20,000 miles (19991).  I used to do 25,000 miles a year

Just reinsured it on a very limited mileage basis.
