Montalbano, coming after the Nordic sagas was a touch of Mediterranean sunshine, very enjoyable. I agree that the anonymity of the cast adds to the suspense but there's more than that, they're very dark - both visually and thematically. That 1st episode of The Bridge was almost all shot at night  eeek:
Some of the culprits barely appear in the first few episodes, certainly the case in The Killing.

Shall try and watch Part II later - that Swedish female cop's quite a nutter, and her colleagues have said as much  lol:

Indeed but she has a nice arse.  whistle:

The THW's current boyfriend's mother teaches Italian ..... she tells her students to watch "Salvo" to improve their accents.

I love all the little shrugs and gestures he makes .... one really doesn't need the subtitles to follow what is going on.
A simple movement of his hands and a puff of the cheeks and you know he is pissed off with someone.

What I wouldn't give to be able to take that morning swim of his and then stand on the balcony sipping an expresso. Sooooooooo Cool!

Yay!

The accents might improve - along with the gestures - but there's a lot of Sicilian argot in Montalbano. I imagine the Italians even need subtitles  lol:
and besides, Livia is in fact Austrian dubbed into Italian  whistle:

I have a feeling I've mentioned that before  rubschin:   .... prolly an AFFS or CRAFT moment
