Silver surfers
« on: March 05, 2010, 10:37:15 AM »
Recently I have been talking to a few of these people about their knowledge or lack of when it comes to things IT.

Am staring to think that there may be a little opening here for me to use my skills in an educational way rather than just the break/fix route.

Anybody got any thoughts/comments about this?

The chap who does my IT came to my attention by putting a flyer through the letter box. He prints a load off and then whens he's quiet he targets an area and letterboxes every house

Sounds like a good idea, but are you a tolerant teacher?

I only know the basics but teaching Mrs DS (#3) how to forward an e-mail every other day can be rather wearing, as is explaining that the PC is not conspiring to misplace or move things to spite her.

Why is it always so tricky to get a double height taskbar from being vertical at the side to single height and horizontal at the bottom, when she can do the reverse so easily and regularly?
I mostly despair

I am very patient, comes from years of experience working with complete morons, usually managers/directors. Done loads of remote support which is the most difficult kind.

In the last couple of weeks I visited a friend of Mrs Tel to sort out a few laptop probs - her son who has some kind of problem (no idea what) pounced on me and we had a long session ripping music for his ipod and generally internet stuff - firend remarked on how patient I was.
It's not something I think about, it's just become part of my working nature.

Also going fishing for many years helps with patience.
