I managed to break our wall thermostat while decorating the hallway 4 years ago and have finally managed to get 'round to purchasing a new one.  cloud9:
Mrs G is most impressed with my rapid response, and reckoms I should werk for the council. rubschin:

Can I simply change it over, as the wires look tiny, without disconnecting the leccy with it presumably being low voltage like the telephone, or am I risking blowing meself and Growler Towers up by simply plundering ahead with the nains still switched on ?
You don't know the original electrician so switch everything off - just in case like.  ;)

In reality though, and if fitted in the correct manner originally, would this be deemed necessary normally?
I'm feeling slightly lucky today but thought it wise to do a bit of checking first like. rubschin:

I rarely turn anything off and prefer to do it 'live' like...

But the best advice would be to switch it off...

As Miss D says, not the time of year to be in A & E...  noooo:

When is then?  rubschin:

Oh I dunno actually.  rubschin:
No fighting teenagers to contend with, or a demanding Mrs G complaining about me wanting to go up 'me 'ill on crimbo day.

Just stick yer fingers in then like...  ::)

So SHOULD it be ok to do it then...generally speaking like?
Surely a thermostat doesn't have 240v powering through it like a telly or summat, or am I looking at this the wrong way like?
I changed a blown fuse last week without turning the leccy off. cloud9:

I've taken the cover off and am currently looking at the 3 wires screwy in hand. It's so tempting. I could have it done in minutes I reckon. rubschin:
I'm dithering though. scared2:

I'll feel happier when Snoops has replied. I trust him as he knows absolutely EVERYTHING! cloud9:

TURN THE ELECTRICITY OFF.

It'll no doubt be off again soon when the Guiness swigging Irish gas contractors have blown the bloody leccy supply up for the village again. ::)

Having an implanted electrical device in my chest I turn off the mains to even change a bulb.

Thermostats, if mains powered, work on about 230 volts. Not worth the risk TBH

Most of the electrics in this house have a 30 minute time slot during which they don't need resetting if the power goes off. Over 30 mins and it's a major task to reset clocks etc.

I'll turn it off when everyone's gone out then.
Thanks Snoops. cloud9:
