I think they've gone now....  evil:

Theoretically you can't take a camera (or can't take photographs) on the base...

But they organised a trip from the village here a while back (to see the Red Arrows) with a 'no camera' rule and loads of people had their cameras with them... Nobody seemed to bother about it even with the U2 taking off a short distance away... I was stupid enough to abide by the rule... ::)

And of course just about everybody walking through the gates these days has a phone with a camera on it so it is impossible to enforce...  whistle:

We had to have the cameras disabled in the OS in our phones - but it was never checked though at several bases had to hand them over when visitting.   On open days at RAF bases here you can photograph anything you want but an awful lot of stuff will be hidden in hangars

A story of camera frustration:

So I nominated a team of engineers based on an RAF base for an award - and they won!.  A good idea was (past tense) to get one of the RAF guys to take a picture of them with the relevant aircraft.  At first no one had any issue then the rules came up.  Not allowed to take a picture it had to be by an authorised photographer and we would have to cough up to release Crown Copyright or pay a royalty every time the picture was used.

Eventual cost: best part of two grand and many hours wasted.  Pics were good though.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

Well, someone had to say it!
