I've just been reliably informed by St.Mrs Growler, that apparently the weather forcasters were predicting early this year that THIS was going to be the hottest driest June since records began. whistle:

Anyone confirm the accuracy of this tale from the unexpected, or is it just a figment of her over active imagination....

she's right, I remember some sandal wearer on Sky News in January warning us it could be the driest summer on record

Oh shit.

Yea right. ::)
We're ALL doomed, so 'they' were wittering 6 months ago.
River levels and underground water supplies have diminished to record lows. We'll soon run out. Hose pipe bans, emergency water tankers on every street will soon become commonplace....apparently, and it's ALL our fault. ::)

Now the record breaking amounts of rain, overflowing resevoirs, floods and general mayhem are no doubt going to be blamed on Global warming.
Errrrr, can you make your bloody minds up please, cus I'm quite frankly getting pissed wet through here, and mighty pissed off listening to all this pure and unadulterated SHITE. evil:
It's simply called the WEATHER, and it runs in cycles just like it has done for tens of millions of years you mental lentil munching tree hugging toss pots.

Your name Growler, may be unfamiliar, but your boring rhetoric is sadly the same from that "other place".

As a dedicated tree hugging lentil muncher, I agree it's called weather, but it's getting wilder, unpredictable and unseasonable.

Better described as climate change, it's here now and your wittering has nothing to do with your reality.

What's that you say? Sorry Mate, "glulglug" is not an answer eyes:

Do try to keep up Hymie, I pointed out the difference between the terminology two pages ago.

She could be right ? record temperatures here!

Just got this letter about saving water from the council.  point:

Quote from: Council Letter
Dear water consumer,

We are running in the middle of the first month of the Summer time and the trend for the increasing water consumption is noticeable.  Our concern for water deficit is intense. Distressing indicators such as continuous building construction works, poor water rainfall, absence of water reservoirs and water over pumping and unconscious water use, reveal the problem?s degree.

It is imperative for all of us to realise the negative consequences that can derive from water deficit. At the current time, Pissouri Community Council and Water Development Department are working feverishly on the topic in order to accelerate the woks and meet the Middle Term Target of the new reservoirs construction. In addition to this, your own backing and contribution upon the issue will act as a catalyst for the problem?s cure.

Bearing in mind all the above, we are kindly requesting from you to collaborate with Local Authority and Other Competent Departments.  Our Service is aware of the situation and it takes all the necessary steps so that to ensure that your households are being supplied with drinkable water 24 hours a day. Your own participation is deemed critical.

Which is why in Spain they have hosepipe bans from October to May, eg you can't wash your car. That means that when the Summer hits they are free to use as and when they wish.

I am still struggling with the idea that I was jumping for joy a few weeks ago that a hose pipe ban hadn't been put in effect and that I would be able to fill up my paddling pool. Doesn't seem any point in filling up if I can't sodding sit in it. The first year I decide not to go away in the Summer and this happens.

I went into nocturnal hibernation last night. In bed by 9pm with a dvd. It isn't right I tell you.  cry:

To the point of chronic boredom, enough has been said on the other side on this topic.

Arguing whether it is called climate change, global warming, ice age or pissing down is as of little consequence as the legendary medieval monks arguing about how many angels could stand on the head of a pin.

Whatever we may choose to call it, the fact is that our extremes of world climate are now becoming ABNORMAL in the sense that there seems to be no evidence of such change since MODERN weather pattern records have been kept.

The real issue being, to what extent is our undeniable ADDITIONAL atmospheric and terrestial pollution responsible for the ABNORMAL climate change?

PS. Why, for the first time on Sydney's Northern Beaches, where one can still sunbathe in June's winter sunshine, am I now having to be rugged up in an heavy overcoat, scarf hat and gloves?

Off and on, I have been here since the early 70's, so please don't tell me this is not unusual!

This whole weather thing is cyclical. The cycle is, however, much longer than a normal lifespan ~ in fact several life spans thus records, which only go back about 160 years are of little or no value in making judgements other than "this is the worst winter since records began" and that translates as the worst winter since about 1840. Don't let us forget people used to skate, regularly, on the River Thames. All the other "evidence" is theory formed by scientists and academics based on what they hope are "records" they have in fact dreamed up by interpreting their findings when they have taken core samples from the earth and the ice caps, worked out how and why trees grow in the way they do, why dinosaurs died out etc etc.

BUT Nobody knows for sure. What we do know is that we are using fossil fuels and that they are finite. Personally I believe that this whole thing is an attempt to get us to accept alternatives to fossil fuels. Once that has been achieved "they" will find something else to get us worked up about.

At the end of the day what else would the journalists have to fill their papers and the airwaves with. It is 0615 in the UK as I type this and on Radio Four some prat is babbling on about South American rain forests being burned and the effect this will have on carbon emissions. Somehow he has managed to combine this with a very bad "Rock/Pop" dirge about "Mother Earth and The Gods". Ah! we have moved onto Africa now and the journo is quoting the Dali Llama in support of his argument. He has now moved onto ancient Greek sayings, has roped in an edited interview with an American lecturer in Greek Mythology and some more dirge like folk music.

The man is clearly a pseud trying to fill radio time to earn his salary.

It is not going to make a hap'orth of difference to me ~ I'll be long dead before the case is proved or otherwise.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

I've heard this week , that the reason for this current 'worst summer since records began'  ::) is that the weather is STUCK in the northerly air flow or summat? confused:
Apparently, we are getting the weather that Iceland should be getting at the moment, and it will continue for the rest of the year apparently.
A very harsh winter is to come as a consequence, because the UK ground and surrounding seas are colder than they should be now...alledgedly.

Yea, I'm confused too, and what's the weather like in Iceland at the moment then?
