What the F*** is that all about?
Sports Days are a total and utter waste of time.
I started school in 1951 and have since that time have hated Sports Days with all of my being.
None of my five children has ever enjoyed a Sports Day and everyone of them has pulled every trick in the book to avoid them. For my part, as a parent, I refuse to endorse them with my presence.
Sports Days are a torture to the children, to the parents who do attend (and many who don't because they are at work etc) and to the teaching staff.
Why bother?
And don't give me that shite about competition being good for the children and/or that the children enjoy them because the vast majority do not permit winners and losers so there is no competition and the children themselves feel demeaned, embarrassed and condescended to by the whole performance.
Schools the length and breadth are currently "rehearsing" the children for sports days, running heats etc to determine who will win "on the day" so the day itself is a farcical waste of time that runs through several weeks when the children could be learning something like reading or writing.
The Children already know who is the best runner, best jumper, best fighter etc. They don't want grown-up interference and false rules to decide these things and they certainly don't want the embarrassment of watching their mothers hitch up their skirts to run bare foot up the sports field or their fathers have heart attacks by attempting to run a hundred yards without a bus to catch.
My sons were horrified that one mother who entered last year's Mums Race turned up in a track suit, stripped down to shorts and vest for the run and then pulled a pair of spikes out of her handbag. Her child was new to the school and she was clearly a "professional" who could not let herself down by failing to win. The poor child has had the p*ss taken ever since but the mother is unrepentant and plans to do the same again. Little does she know she will be running against herself as every other Mum has sworn not to be involved. I feel sorry for her child but honestly ..... some people!
