Having grown up on a council estate I question why it should be thought that Cabinet Ministers would be any different if "Forced to live on council estates" ~ you are pandering to prejudice with such statements. John Prescott grew up on a council estate. Did it make him a better minister?

David Howarth MP ~ just a few of the many ministers, ex ministers and sundry MPs from all parties who grew up on Council Estates ~ Oh and so did Nicolas Sarkozy  whistle:

Now I am NOT saying that Mandleson is not a crook but living on a council estate would not change that.

I was making no judgement abouthte denizens of council estates, merely that preaching Socialism (or whatever it is now) forma 2.5 million housein Regents Park is contemptible. They should be made to live amongst the victims of their own policies. The crap about getting the kids of the poor into Universities (Blackbird Leys: Oxford yesterday) is an idnictment of their rule and reflects the fact that whereas many of us in the 60s(and that includes most Cabinet ministers) had access to Grammar Schools and free university education (with a grant) everyone now ends up in debt to the tune of thousands and the Grammar school is a vansihing breed (apart from round here, fortunately). My parents were working class without a doubt (rented house, mum worked the evening shift at Boots) but I got to Grammar and never looked back. Good for me.

We are lucky that The Boy has a chance to get to a Grammar and are saving like fury for when he gets to University or needs a plumbers' van
