I'm still amazed that an island gubbernment never considered getting a decent sized desalinisation plant built to cover any shortfall. 
Oh, we have desalination plants and the island is not currently short of water - the dams are 65% full.
The issue is getting sufficient water into our village - we are supplied by a rickety electric pump in Pafos (which is on a river bed

) - it is unreliable in the summer and gets flooded out in the winter.

The pump broke down about a week ago... The problem is now that after fixing it a short time later the water floods into the storage tanks of the houses at the lowest part of the village and there isn't sufficient capacity to supply the entire village at once. They've struggled to ration the water betwixt different parts of the village but it is like plates on sticks.
Luckily, having been here since 2002 I have sufficient storage to keep us going for ages. Eventually the water will come back on and my tanks will top up again...
