Snoopy - as usual - has it spot on, except NO-ONE is my superior. Except from Mrs TMR (to be).

They will still have to re-employ me as a contractor when I leave, or be in a world of sh1te so deep that even they can't dig themselves out. All 18000 of them and their slick marketing ploys.

But I am not bitter. Only my Young's is.

Superiors only in the sense that they have been set above you in the management chain of command by a thoughtless board of directors who in turn were put in place by mindless shareholders who have probably never met you let alone had the opportunity to evaluate your qualities and form a subjective opinion of your true worth. ::)

No shareholders in my place. Despite the corporate idiocy in the place, it is a mutual. And still trying to keep the High Street banks on their toes - a good thing.

No bad American sub-prime to destroy the balance books here.

And still the fuckwits go for the bottom line, not the fair play system so eulogised by the corporate ethic.

Apparently.

In three years time, they will be a plc. THEN look at how it goes...

End of sermon.

AH! I am a shareholder in a Mutual Building Society. I vote for the board of Directors. I would have no idea who works for them but because I have my pittance paid into an account monthly and I have another account in which I keep my small capital and yet another account through which I can buy and sell what stock holdings I may have at any given time I am addressed by them as a Shareholder and do get my invitation to the AGM plus details of those directors who come and go over the years, resolutions etc ~ all to be voted on at the AGM either by personally attending or by proxy. I get paid a dividend if things go well and not if they don't. Makes no odds if it is a PLC or a Mutual, and I do accept there are differences, the game works the same way.
However since my Building Society is regionally based in East Anglia and has no offices further West than Bedford I am not one of your employers.

Then DS, you are a member (snigger) not a shareholder. As defined under the Buiding Socities Act (circa long time ago). Dividends are a separate thing to plc profits, although they both wind up in your bank account.

Semantics ~ you still have a chain of management appointed by a board which is voted in or out of office by the members or shareholders (and it a matter of choice what each business wishes to call them). In that respect there is no difference between working for a mutual or demutualised bank or building society.

In that respect there is no difference between working for a mutual or demutualised bank or building society.

"A mutual exists with the purpose of raising funds (or money), from its membership or customers (collectively called its members), which can then be used to provide common services to all members of the organization or society. A mutual is therefore owned by, and run for the benefit of, its members - it has no external shareholders to pay in the form of dividends, and as such does not usually seek to maximize and make large profits or capital gains. Mutuals exist for the members to benefit from the services they provide.

Profits made will usually be re-invested in the mutual for the benefit of the members, although some profit may also be necessary in the case of mutuals to sustain or grow the organization, and to make sure it remains safe and secure."

 lol:

Either way, today they paid me my 10.4% annual bonus in addition to putting my wages in a day early  cloud9:

Imagine how much it could have been if they actually employed more competent people!
