Grrr!
« on: June 18, 2008, 02:57:39 PM »
It appears I am in trouble again, for this:-                (some details changed to protect the hard of thinking in certain parts of my place)

And - to add to MC's comments, when they took over, certain legacy systems were purposely overlooked as their shelf lives at the time was deemed to be limited. MPoS was going to make Quest redundant. MPoS was going to be able to provide non-footprinted searches for non additional lending purposes. However, the enhancements to MPoS to do this were Business Request numbers 256,274  and 1,865,486 or something and thus they have never come to fruition. Quelle surpris. Where are we at now, in terms of Business Requests? How they managed to get past number 100 yet? After 6 years?

It may amaze you to know that we used to send faxes prior to the installation of this (Quest) prehistoric bit of kit - and that time it was seen as a massive leap forward in technology, processes and paper saving. The Brazilian rain forest heaved a noticeable sigh of relief.

But going back to fax may - ironically - be a giant leap forward. Welcome to the flat earth society.

Let's really blow expectations and do something through RightFax, that would save fat people moving from their seats (getting much needed exercise) and thus the valuation requests for the 2 applications they receive per week these days can be expedited at almost a Snail Formula 1 like pace, as opposed to the current glacial one...

I have a feeling that if you phoned Countrywide and mentioned a DOS based Quest machine, they would quickly decide you are Satan and put the phone down.

And I wouldn't blame them, because you are.

Never mind TMR ~ soon be time to take the money and run. So long as they don't throw you out on your ear with no redundancy on a trumped up "Gross Misconduct" charge. Tread softly my friend for they have yet to sign the cheque.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

A tad harsh you think?

For background, I do know this person quite well.

51 days to go.

And then they will probably re-employ me on a contract basis...

I did that when they "retired" me. Worked out OK at first but I found that being "contracted" meant that I was never at any meetings etc. Good thing one would think ~ given that I always did my damndest to avoid meetings anyway .... but in this and many other subtle ways I found myself out of the loop on all decisions and after six months was glad to call it a day as I felt completely out of touch with what I was being asked to "consult" on.

It's a common story; beware. When I started out on my own I took great pains to make sure the company I was parting from knew where I was, how I could be contacted and that we could still work together. They agreed; an all round good deal.

Lying bastards!  I heard sweet FA from them. I think they had the attitude that nobody treats them like that. Well, here we are, 21 years later, there've been ups and downs but I'm still at it. They went into liquidation about 4 years ago. Frankly I'm surprised they lasted that long.

TMR was pointing out, in a memo to his superiors that current problems being experienced within their organisation are a direct result of decisions they had made, against his advice, in the past and that in his opinion it served them right. To make his point he used a heavy sarcasm which in my humble opinion probably went straight over their heads. Bosses, it has been my experience, do not do irony.

Tune in again next week when Mr Snoopy will explain the Lisbon Treaty in a single sentence.
