Amazon have recently "re-issued" books by R.F. Delderfield on Kindle.
MiL, knowing via Woodstock, that I have enjoyed his books in the past bought me several for my birthday on the grounds that I would need summat to read in hospital. Wasn't in long enough to read more than a chapter or six I have been spending my evenings with my new pipes, a bowl of Players 965 mixture and my feet up re-reading books from years ago.
A most excellent way of spending an evening  cloud9:

Yes BM I know she didn't use the VP link for Amazon but it was a surprise gift so I didn't get the chance to put it through our linky and anyway I'm not having her in here!
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

The script, needless to say, is one, long zinger, parodying high-falutin' costume-drama diction with an exquisite mixture of savagery and scatology. I loved Edmund's excruciating comparison of his first and second wives' pudenda: "Arabelle was smooth as ham – nature did not busy her broken mound with such a black and forceful brush". And Dorothy's sombre update on her master's mother's medical condition: "Her bowel has still not spoken, Sir ... though I fancy I caught a whisper
