I have just discovered that I have left my house keys at home!

Will now have to traipse over to Croydon to get Mrs Tel's keys.

I would have gone to the pub anyway.

However Mrs Tel is working until 8 and won't be happy to find me still there when she comes past.

Will hop on tram, only 100yards away, get keys and then get to pub.

It's inevitable ~ best he trails out to Croydon and makes a full confession now rather than trying to make excuses, whilst stinking of beer, later. The Croydon route leads to him being called stupid ~ the pub route leads to accusations of debauchery, caring more about his mates in the pub than Mrs Tel, etc etc. He can't win but he can limit the damage.
