That doesn't make sense. If you upgrade to 10 then you'll no longer need to update 7.

Well seems not as daft as I'd feared

It downloaded Win 10 (for the second time) then the Win 7 updates but only did those

Now it says it wants to download Win 10 again

It is going to beat me into submission isn't it
Well, whatever, nevermind

Try going into your task manager, click on the processes tab and end the GWX process. That may get around it.  rubschin:

Another 'feature' of Windows 10 that seems to be making the news at the moment is the built in feature to block 'pirated' software and unofficial hardware (wonder how long it will be before there are reports of licensed software getting blocked). Strangely enough it's also killing Securerom and disksafe (both anti piracy mainstays) as well.  rubschin:

No guarantees it will work but the GWX process is their get windows 10 taskbar program so as long as the update/upgrade requirement isn't on the server side it should do.

What happens is the GWX relaunches after a few hours

Still the PC is sort of behaving right now

Well, whatever, nevermind

I figured it would eventually relaunch but you would have enough of a window to download the updates.   Thumbs:

But it's weird.  Just tried to install an optional update and it says it is downloading Win 10 again and creating a restore point

Well, whatever, nevermind

I've looked at the automatic updates on my desktop and have about 10 failed attempts to install windows 10 but the rest of the updates and patches have gone through without a hitch but you may want to check yourself to be on the safe side.

Yep same here

It seems that it says it is going to download Win 10 first but doesn't and then installs the Win 7 updates

I'm going to wait for my other PC to be 'ready' and then install it and see how that goes.  I have a full set of restore discs for that and because it's a full size laptop it just rarely gets used so no tragedy if it's out of action for a week.
Well, whatever, nevermind

I have to say that apart from having to track down a driver for my aged Notebook, it's all been untraumatic and the all new Windows 10 is better than Windows 7

This sort of means I'm saying "Well done Microsoft.  "

I'll get over it
Well, whatever, nevermind
