Told you to have more faith in Parliament

David Cameron loses Commons vote on Syria action

What a fool.  A true statesman never overreaches and then has to retreat.  And Cameron was in retreat when he opened up the debate.  I liked Cameron, he did much good but a busted flush is always beyond repair and he looks a very busted flush right now.

There was only 13 votes in it while >50% of the country was against.... hardly representative democracy is it....?  noooo:

Thankfully, not all the MPs voted along party lines this time....

 rubschin:

What would you consider a suitable number of votes for and against to represent the views of just over half the population?

285 against out of 557 sounds like just over half to me, or am I missing something?

I think the last poll I saw (can't find it now) had >50% against, 25% for and the rest 'don't knows'....

I suppose my (obviously poorly made point) was that the majority of MPs ignored the wishes of their constituents and voted as directed by the party.... but for a few strong willed (and as far as I can see more than a few cock-ups) we would now be heading towards intervention....

Parliament did the right thing and seems all you can do is condemn it

I think it came to the right conclusion but sadly for the wrong reasons....

I don't think the voting farce and Miliband's flip-flopping between supporting military action then being against it should fill us with confidence that the country is in safe hands...  noooo:

I never said we were in safe hands or that politicians aren't sheep or stupid, all I did was to point out that more than 50% of MPs voting for what more than 50% of the population wanted was not a good example of democracy in decline.

In general our politicians are less sheep like, less flip floppy, more honest and harder working than their constituents

So terribly undemocratic that

As we don't live in a true democracy, it doesn't really matter about numbers or what people think.

We elect people to think for us.  noooo:

Parliamentary democracy rools.

That silly story has been around for ages.

Yes they could divert water purifying chemicals to make one of the commonly available component elements of the Sarin molecule that they already have in the country but why would they bother when Russia and Iran would happily supply the the finished product?
Well, whatever, nevermind
