Can someone explain the logic here, banning small packs of tobacco and packs of 10 cigarettes isn't going to cut down smoking. All I can see happen is that either people are going to buy the next size up instead or they are going to get cheaper stuff from a 'mate down the pub' instead.

It's classic bollocks thinking ignoring the law of unintended consequences.  Yes it may deter some poorer esp younger people from buying cigarettes but as you pointed out it will also inevitably mean some will buy and smoke 20 when they would have just gone for 10

The first recourse of failed leaders is control, they're losing the battle to lead behaviour by information and persuasion and in their minds that must not be allowed to stand so more controls must be imposed.

The worst thing about the EU Tobacco Directive is the way that Anna Soubry pushed it through.... completely ignoring the democratic process in the UK....

She didn't even know what was in the fucking thing!

Yep people went to a lot of trouble to retain in the Lisbon treaty the supremacy of the UK parliament  for UK matters and that shabby little cow decides to just misuse it.

I believe the proposed directive will still have to get parliamentary approval but that doesn't mean a full Act.
