Pronouncing bus numbers

Is it just in London like or does it happen elsewhere ?

If a bus has a one or two digit number you pronounce the whole thing ...like eleven  or fifty seven.

However if it is a three digit bus number it is broken down into it's component parts .....like the 1 - 5 - 9 ....never the hundred and fifty nine ?

Dunno Miss D but I do remember we used to catch the N13 (Night Bus) from Trafalgar Square to North Finchley after we had been to the South Bank for a concert.

Woodstock has an encyclopedic knowledge of North London Bus routes ...... but she cannot give directions if I elect to drive into town. Comes from years of catching buses I suppose.

But the fact that we say fifty-seven and not five-seven is exactly the point the OP was making - and destroys your theory.....

The point the OP was making was that we DO pronounce the whole number (fifty seven) when five seven would be simpler.

Yet on big numbers we say one five seven instead of one hundred and fifty seven - which is logical.

Fifty seven is as simple as saying a single digit number virtually in'it ey?

It's the werd AND that cocks it all up in the hundreds numbers.
