hilarious news conference from Defra

watching it on Sky News, Debbie Reynolds says : " the use of helicopters by the news agencies is not helping, it is scaring the livestock "

left side of the screen shows a live shot from the sky helicopter.. drumroll:

Didn't she used to be something in the films?

Yes here she is. Married Eddie Fisher at one time. Starred in "Singing In The Rain"

So wot's she got to do with Foot 'n' Mouth then?

I wonder if it affects Darwin?

Thank you for the "concern".

We have none of the at-risk livestock and most in the immediate area are the same.

It will go one of two ways, isolated outbreak nipped in the bud or carnage again. cry:

No he's probably all right. It's Pigs, Sheep and Cattle. I don't think Turnips or Turkeys are affected.
Although I'm not sure about DS personally  rubschin: There are those who believe that he is cloven hoofed.

I do have a bit of a sore throat though. scared2:

That'll be the Jeyes Fluid fumes.

I have just heard, on the news, that David Cameron has offered Gordon Brown "His support".

Though quite whether Gordon will wear it is not made clear.

Oh sometimes they make it too easy! tunble:

P'raps our dear old Darwin can explain to this 'townie', but I find it quite staggering that they are taking the dead infected carcass' all the way from Surrey BY ROAD in as good as open trucks, to bloody Somerset to be incinerated!! eeek:
I thought this highly viralant virus was easily transmitted via the wind ffs?
I would therefore imagine that the wind will be swirling around these carcass',and blowing all over the countryside en route?

Why don't they simply burn and bury them on site?

Five will get you ten it'll have something to do with EU regulations meaning that the carcasses have to be destroyed in approved plants and that the costs of meeting the regulations have driven all local knackers yards out of business.

Snoopy has the broad answer I'm afraid. Disposal, even by burning, has to be done on approved sites only.

They do however, spray gallons of the disinfectant over them before the lorry leaves, and they put dust-proof covers strapped down over the lot. (you could see a bloke pulling one tight in the background of one of the BBC clips)

It did occur to me that the media could have explained that, as it looked like they just chucked them in the back of an open wagon and drove off in a cloud of virus laden dust.

Wait until they find some half-wit DEFRA lab-technician put a load of virus-soaked test samples out in the wheelie bin at the research place next door. evil:

I'm impressed!  Does DEFRA read our board or is DS a prophet?

Quote from: BBC

Foot-and-mouth strain identified
The strain of foot-and-mouth found at a Surrey farm is identical to one used at a nearby laboratory, says Defra

I was a bit worried about my turnip franchise actually, cute little things?  sad24:

Actually, I was told yesterday that the DEFRA lab in question is the only place that keeps live F&M and was likely to be the source?  whistle:

why don't they slaughter the cattle on site and still use the meat ? It's supposed to be ok to eat.. waste of good steak if you ask me.
