Usual problem with washing machines is a wire from an Underwired Bra is caught in the drum/filter. Makes a lot of noise and can stop the drum from moving. Easy to repair.
Obviously the bearing can go, that makes an awful noise and is simply not worth the cost of repair.
New motor etc is a bit like Trigger's Broom. 8 new handles and 6 new heads and it's still the same broom!
TBH with Indesit machines from £200 or less a new one is the simplest option.

But is it filling with water? Is the drum not revolving? Is it not emptying?

When I said exactly what is it not doing the operative word was exactly.


You recently reported a water supply you had to disconnect & repair. Maybe you have an airlock. It does seem a bit of a coincidence.

Obviously you will have checked the electrical supply (fuses etc) Belt drive and suchlike.

Seriously, before I became incapable of shifting washing machines I did used to repair them.
I used to work on a process of elimination.
1) Check water supply was reaching machine.
2) Check drum turned freely by pushing it with hand
3) If drum was not moving or made noises then seek obstruction and remove it
4) If drum moved check electrics supply
5) Check filter to ensure no blockages
6) If there is water in machine put it on short spin to make sure pump is working
7) If all else fails switch off electrical supply and take back off machine to check belt and bearings (Do not take cover off machine with electric on. You can get a hell of a belt from many of the component parts within as I have discovered)
8 ) If all above seems OK then the problem is probably in the "computerised" programmer. You can replace these, usually obtainable from the manufacturer. Some makers insist that only their own engineers can fit these. Bollix! How hard is it to unplug the little board and slot in a new one?

That is all I can offer.

It stopped mid-cycle - full of water...

The 'Rinses' light flashes...

I can get it to fill and empty but the drum doesn't turn...

The manual helpfully diagnoses the fault thus: -



The Engineer thinks it is either the motor (£500) or the controller (£230)

However, I have discovered this thread which describes it as a common miele problem and shows a cheap repair of the controller by replacing a couple of components! 

So, I'm off to take a look... when me hand is better like...

It wasn't a "Job" as in employment .... it was all DIY due to lack of funds.

Same as I used to repair/replace brakes (linings, cylinders etc) and exhausts on my own cars, lay carpets in various homes over the years, fit own lights, repair cooker, mend lawn mowers, sharpen knives, mower blades, grow own veg (on an allotment), paint house inside and out etc etc etc...... Just like you in fact.
All in the name of economy.

Getting older and more infirm precludes such activities nowadays and of course many such things have become so cheap it is no longer necessary.

Frankly I do miss some of these activities much as I miss going for a walk or bike ride. Others I am only too glad to have the excuse to contract the work out. If the heart and mobility issues weren't such a problem I would currently be painting the outside of the house ~ as it is I am seeking quotes to get someone else to do it.
