Will it be a White Christmas?

What is a white Christmas?

For many a white Christmas means a complete covering of snow, ideally falling on the 25th.

However, the definition of an official white Christmas used most widely, notably by those placing and taking bets, is for a single snow flake (perhaps amongst a shower of rain and snow mixed) to be observed falling in the 24 hours of 25 December.

The last official white Christmas was in 2009, when snow was widespread across Northen Ireland, Scotland, parts of Wales, the Midlands, north-east and far south-west England.

On Monday the forecaster was talking of possible snow on Christmas day afternoon, but the 2 - 5 day forecast for down here that was issued yesterday gave

Remaining very cold and dry. Northeasterly breeze easing giving a risk of freezing fog patches overnight.

Outlook for Saturday and Sunday
Dry, with freezing fog patches through Saturday and at first on Sunday. Warmer, more unsettled conditions will spread eastwards across the area early on Monday. Snow is likely on the leading edge, turning to rain later. Risk of some significant snow if front becomes stalled over area.

So a brief and welcome respite from the snow, but minimum temperatures predicted to be -6 to -10. No doubt the roads in Barman's neck of the woods will be melting due to the heat

William Hill's are giving it for Big Ben. Ladbrokes are giving it for Buckingham Palace

And you're right, they moved from Bracknell to Exeter a few years ago, I've been down to it a couple of times for training, a very impressive facility

And the Air Ministry, created in 1918, was put to sleep assimilated into the Ministry of Defence in 1964.
I remember the party wake we had to commemorate its passing.
