good way to improve our cricketers
« on: July 19, 2007, 02:57:52 PM »
start them on baseball !, my local friendly Sky engineer ( from Texas ) told me today..

hang on, i'll tell you WHY I saw him today.. Sky+ problems.. I wont go into details, but this thread will give you an idea :

back to the story, he told me that when he came to England someone invited him to play cricket, he was very handy with a baseball bat, so he said hitting the ball with a cricket bat was no problem..and he ended up playing for Penrith for 3 seasons

Yes but they throw the ball at you in Baseball. In cricket that is not allowed.
Eye/Hand co-ordination is good for both sports which is why Cricketers and Baseball players tend to play golf very well too.

you'll find that in baseball they throw the ball to the side of you, not at you.. ::)

I should know, being an ex player.. whistle:

Me too ~ I grew up with Baseball played with the Yanks off the boats in Southampton.
Seriously though ~ baseball coaches have been used by many counties to improve fielding skills (Catching and throwing for example) in recent years. Hence the "new" fad for sliding after the ball, pick-up, turn and throw that so many cricketers use today. You would never have seen P.B.H. May with grass stains on his whites!
