The police are holding the money Under the Proceeds of Crime Act while the matter is investigated.
Magistrates have given Norfolk Police until September to hold on to the money before the case comes up in court again.
If the money remains unclaimed the family could potentially apply for it to be returned to them under the Police Property Act.
A police spokesman said: "We have until 22 September before we have to go back to court to apply for a further order if necessary."
They are at it again! Where did the 'Proceeds of Crime' come from? I always believed there had to be knowledge of a crime before invoking that legislation!

They seem to be assuming that handing in the money is a crime - well, I think it is anyway.

This is why I am set against indefinite detention for terrorists - everybody will be a potential terrorist for the first five years... then they'll admit they just could not find any evidence and turn you loose, even pensioners at party conferences will be terrorists...
