Help Please!
« on: May 27, 2010, 02:05:50 PM »
Looks like LL will have to make a quick exit to the UK this weekend because of family health issues...

What would be the best way to get Intermong access on her laptop for a short period (up to three months)?

She will mostly be based in Epsom.

I'm thinking along the lines of a 3G dongle or suchlike?

Thanks...

Check for free wi-fi spots.

Our Youngs pub has a free service.

You can still get a signal outside.

Also it's an hotel so you can always sit in reception.

We even use their leccy.

Anyway, just check Epsom for free wi-fi spots.

She really needs to communicate from home - so a 3G dongle is going to be the best bet. She is renting for six months so a land-line and broadband is out of the question...

Dongle is the answer ~ cost depends on just how much download you want but the dongle on a PAYG basis will sort the job and be available every time you both come over. BTW most dongles will not handle Linux. I am having a hell of a job finding one to work with Linux ~ despite various promises from all main suppliers etc.
I used to have a handle on life but it broke.

I think you're right...

Just to choose betwixt Virgin and Vodafone...

Virgin says 'Good' coverage (as opposed to V. Good or excellent) in Epsom... can't get the Vodafone site to give the same info but I'd guess it would be better... don't want her to be fucking about hanging out of windows or climbing on stools to get a signal really...  noooo:

I borrowed a Vodafone dongle when I was in hospital and it worked fine. It was a spare office one and we have several others being used in the southeast and I've not heard of any complaints.

Thanks Uncle, Vodafone it is then...  happy088

I'll order it now and set the SMTP up for her before she goes...
