Fascinating lunch with an ex-BA pilot who flew Vanguards, Tridents, 757s and 767s...

I was asking about the Trident (quite quirky) and he started talking about Papa India that crashed at Staines. He was in the crew room with Captain Keys before the flight... He was co-pilot on another Trident flight that was delayed because of the Papa India crash and then took off and flew over the crash scene...  eeek:

Tridents had that high mounted horizontal stabiliser.  No surprise they were 'quirky'.
Well, whatever, nevermind

He said that if the slats were retracted early you were FUBAR - no going back... And that later they installed a limiter that prevented them being retracted at less than 200 knots...

Pascinating bloke who sadly has Parkinsons...  cry:

That's sad  noooo:

High mounted stabilisers are aerodynamically the most efficient but jet design after jet design  that used them has been prone to unrecoverable stalls

Fortunately I only read about that after my last flight in a 727
Well, whatever, nevermind

 Banghead

So today was take junk to the tip day.  They now have a barrier where you wait til they check if you've booked.  Eventually they raise it but we have to stop first because some dozy van is reversing at it and then an even dozier pedestrian is wandering around carrying a saw.  And thump down comes the barrier on the car.

And it's scratched  cry:.  This could be interesting.
