And definitely look at PHEVs, they're brilliant to drive with no range anxiety of full electrics but ask questions about how does the 12V battery get charged. 

Also never believe the electric range quoted.  If you need Air Con or you need heating or you need headlights or the day is just cold then the range goes down.  Over the 3 years we're getting 2.8 miles/kWh for ours.

It's a faff getting the data to draw graphs as it outputs everything as text.  But it's certainly showing the car has a BIG problem.  Batteries are supposed to be charged at over 14 volts
