Are we supposed to be having a 'last day of smoking party' in this dump, but someone forgot to invite the regulars? ::)

I am smoking in my local. I intend to finish the entire pouch of tobacco before I leave.

My local smells decidedly odd today. It is obviously true that the ciggie smoke masks the smell of the stale beer ingrained in the carpet.

A peek behind the curtain marked "Management" revealed to me that most of these were browsers from other places. No ~ Not "the other place" but a variety of locations as diverse as Africa, The USA and Europe based ISPs.
This happens from time to time as some systems automatically trawl sites like this looking for advertising opportunities (none here) and some are assessing our throughput to decide where to place us on search engines. Others are, of course, nosy b@st@rds who look but never join.
We did not have 36 members on line.

At the moment we are showing two guests and six members. One of those guests is a member ~ having a quick browse no doubt but he has now signed in. The system shows activity over the past 15 minutes so this particular person appears in the stats twice. See how easy it is to get the wrong impression.

They find you but you help matters along by placing "Key Words" with the search engines so that if someone is looking for what you have to offer your site gets flagged up.
For instance. Try Googling "Mincing" You'll get 848000 choices then try Googling "Mincing Queen" You'll get 136000 choices. You'll see from these two different sets of results that being too specific can reduce considerably the number of choices offered but if you really are looking for Mincing Queens being specific is better. For your site you need to identify the key words that people might use to look for such entertainment as you offer and those are the words you place with the search engines...... choosing the right key words is easy enough ~ just think of everything anybody would call your venture. Getting the words to the search engines is done as part of the hosting package or you can employ a specialist company to "place" your site (they use the method I have described and can cost money!!!)
Get as many people as you can to "search for your site". The more searches it gets the higher up their lists the search engines will place you. That's why they trawl us ~ to see how many hits we get.
Google Virtual Pub and you'll see what I mean ~ over 5 million choices listed and we are not on the first page

Bit of a waste of time googling for here or me for instance then really, cus statistics prove that the vast majority of googlers only read the first page of results...apparently.
I've found a thing in my web management contents list for doing this, so I'll give it a try.
2,190,000 listed when i typed in the words I would use if looking for what I'm offering. shocked003
