Although the authorities do use these these events to place more control over us they are real terrorist incidents which, but for a little luck, could have worse.
From all accounts it seems that these were amateur in the extreme ? cars full of petrol and gas cylinders with a mobile ?phone connected to a bulb filament as the igniter (in the case of the London ?attacks?).  Who knows, perhaps the Glasgow attack was a similar weapon and their mum called them up to ask what time they would be home for their tea while they were on the way?

I?m not an expert but I know that it is extremely difficult to ignite petrol/gas vapour in an enclosed space. I know that gas cylinders don?t explode immediately in fires ? it take a great deal of heat and then they are designed to ?vent? rather than explode. If petrol and gas cylinders were so explosive they wouldn?t be allowed to be carted around the country every day.

So it seems to me that this was an amateur attack ? no doubt we should be worried about it. What drives these people to hate us so much that they are prepared to risk their lives to cause chaos and loss of life for their cause? We need to look at their backgrounds and see what the cause was, who incited them to hatred.

However, I think we have to be extremely careful not to overreact. We are being told that this was an attack by Al Qu'ida and that fact will surely lead to greater restrictions on our lives. Inspired by Al Qu'ida perhaps but organised and funded by them ? no. For surely Al Qu'ida would know that you would need explosives to detonate a car full of petrol and gas cylinders ? and probably have access to it.

True but the explosives wouldnt have to be complicated, the contents of a couple of boxes of fireworks would, I suspect, provide the required amount. Bear in mind that an IED is just that, improvised.

To be honest I'm waiting to hear on the news that some of these morons have tried to set off the Richard Montgomery.

Noooo? it is notoriously difficult to ignite petrol ? especially in enclosed spaces. The images in Hollywood of cars exploding when somebody shakes a fist at them are simply untrue.

Likewise, gas cylinders are designed to be used over and over and subjected to extremes of temperatures and rough handling ? otherwise you couldn?t drive truckloads of them around the country without the things going off every five minutes.

You?d surely need a huge explosive to destroy the car, burst the gas cylinders and produce a ?fuel-air? cloud that would produce an effective weapon.

So's mine funnily enough. Dead polite and never rushes me.Real nice guy on the face of it, and I'm sure he is too.

Look at those on the box tonight though.Looked like ordinary decent quacks, here to help the sick and save lives. Listen to what their colleauges say about them.
Bloody frightening isn't it? Just who do you trust now?

Even my local vicar is starting to look a bit dodgy now. He's HAS got a beard you know. scared2:
Saw him in the petrol station before buying petrol ffs! eeek:

Lets us remember that these people work for the NHS ~ that implies that they do not necessarily have to be very bright ~ if my experiences with that organisation are anything to go by evil:

Hang on. Those two bastards that drove the Jeep into the Airport terminal were qualified doctors weren't they?
Surely you have to have a modicum of intelligence to become one don't you?
Well, at least a smidging more than the amount the other breath wasting bearded pond life had when they tried to blow London up very nearly 2 years ago.
On saying that, those bastards were moderately more successful than these animals, so p'raps, maybe......... rubschin:
