Well the BBC has it here

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/8260088.stm

In case their story isn't clear it gets supplemented here

http://the-red-rag.blogspot.com/2009/09/why-baroness-scotland-has-no-defence-to.html

So. When will we hear of her resignation?

When will we hear of her being charged?

I am not holding my breath

The BBC "Expect" the Noble Baroness to be fined ?2500 for a "Technical breach of the rules". This will be a "civil penalty" and as such means that "no criminal proceedings will taken" against the Noble Baroness and "she will not therefore be expected to resign".

What a fvcking carve-up. Honourable Members? They don't know the meaning of the word Honour  noooo:

This from a bunch who Tony Blair swore would be "whiter than white, cleaner than clean". What utter bollox! evil:

So do I. If she didn't know the rules then who does. I know our company has to jump through hoops these days to employ any non-indigenous staff. We even had to pay ?1000 'sponsor' licence fee to the UK Border Agency just for the privilege.

Since the Noble Baroness has trousered an estimated £175,000 in additional allowances (tax free) during her time as an unelected member of Government, as proceeds of a claim "made on her behalf" by her Department for having to live in London to fulfill her role, I doubt that she will miss the £2500. Small change really.

BTW Her main and family home is and already was in London. She does have a holiday home/weekend retreat in Gloucestershire. Other members of the Government who sit in the Lords and have homes in London do NOT claim this additional allowance ......... No not even Lord Rhumba of Rio.

As a member of the House of Lords she can claim an Attendance Allowance for each day she actually "signs in" to the House. Additionally she can claim an allowance for "Day Subsistence" to cover cost of meals and "Office Costs" totalling £255 PER DAY. As a Minister she may make a claim of £5,000 pa to help defray Secretarial Costs (over and above the secretarial support given by the Departmental Civil Servants) and she may claim 40pence per mile travel costs to cover up to 10000 miles pa home to office travel.
Then there is the £38,280pa she has claimed for maintaining a home in London.
Add that little lot to the Ministerial Salary of £113,000pa that she is paid (Oh and that is the only bit of income that she is taxed on)

I doubt that she is really worried about a fine of £5,000 particularly as it has been levied as a civil matter and not a criminal one.

She also gets to keep the Lords allowances even when we boot Labour out at a General Election and has a Ministerial Pension to look forward to.

Quote
On Wednesday, Stephen Hesford stood down from his post as a parliamentary aide to the law officers in protest after Baroness Scotland, the Attorney General, was fined for employing a Tongan housekeeper who did not have permission to work in the United Kingdom.

Well at least he showed some sense of honour.
