Water Infiltration

Kitchen extension has sprung a leak. Could be the rain we've all had but it seems to have been going on for some time, behind wall cupboards etc, so I think maybe the recent heavy rains have brought it to attention.
Have now remove said cupboards and Holy Cow it's a mess. Just got off the 'phone to the Insurance Company but do not hold out much hope. Looks like the savings are going to take a hammering! Not happy!  censored:

Not Happy, I'm here to help!

Why must everybody make everything bigger, compensation?  Throw the breadmaker, ice cream maker, kenwood food prcessor et al away; they're only clogging up the cupboards.

Also, you should feel very happy that the water has chosen to live in your premises.  Rats give my abode a wide berth.  Perhaps the garden was just fighting back, a nice new water feature...

The insurance assessor has just left. ~ We are getting a new kitchen ceiling, new electrics and a partial redec (as we had already started on the redec they won't finish it. My contri = £50 for the excess. YIPPEE!

Good job. Bear in mind though, that details of your claim will be put on a nationwide insurance database and they will have an eagle eye on you. Wrong, but true.

Yes ~ I know about that and this is my second claim in 5 years but it is an old house and they have accepted the risk (and the premiums!).
I have nothing to fear except increased premiums next year and my policy does have a built in No Claims protection!

Daft Beagle - they will fuck you come renewal time.

Still, all the rain in Sheffield now means that the streets are alive with the sounds of "Great, super, smashing" now that those dozy bastards who won on Bullseye can actuaully use the speedboats they won :-)

Yeah Yeah ..... so your alternative would be????
(i) Sell the house with the kitchen ceiling caved in?
(ii) Try to DIY (Remember I am disabled and I suspect the job is beyond the wife's skill level)?
(iii) Live in a house with the kitchen sealed off for all time?
(iv) Pay out the requisite ?2k (est) myself?
(v) Claim on my buildings insurance, get the problem professionally fixed and move on?

You have made the only choice open to you really, my comment was only a "heads-up" sort of thingy.

Too many people make stupid claims - and we all pay for it eventually. Deserving causes like yours are unfairly penalised. Which is wrong.

PS which company was the loss assessor from - that makes a difference.

Liverpool Victoria ~ who sub the job out to "Local Contractors" ~ in this case XXXX Building Contracts Ltd, whose HO is in this village!

Indeed ..... but then we who pay insurance premiums are still paying for disasters like the tsunami, the sinking of the Titanic and Lord alone knows what. Like bookies the insurers will come out on top.

I don't mind paying for insurance, it seems the sensible thing to do,  cf. Snoopy's claim.

I did hear that there is a possibiliy that some people who weren't insured and affected by the recent floods will get payments from the Social Fund, e.g. me. Another case of the government rewarding stupid behaviour.

Come on Mort, where's your sense of charity.

These people without insurance prolly had more urgent things to spend their money on - fags, stella, nokia n95, nintendo wii etc etc etc.
