If you think he has the first idea of what to get LL for her birthday. He hasn't a clue ~ he is a man. Hints could have been dropped like mortars raining in during a Taleban raid and he won't even have noticed them. At the last minute he will throw money at the problem and, being wise, he will keep the receipt(s) so that LL can change whatever unsuitable item(s) he has purchased in his desperation.
When all else fails we buy (a) something smelly (b) something for bedtime wear that even a tart would turn her nose up at (c) another leather handbag  .......... and then add chocolates as an afterthought.

Something (anything) in a small box preferably with the word Tiffany or Aspreys on the lid.

You don't get let off that easy ......you just have to go back over your memory cells and remember when LL said she liked something or wanted something over the past year. You will have of course secretly stored this away for such occasions and there should be plenty of references in there. Then surprise her by remembering  ::)
