I was going to do a rant about the Navy delaying the purchase of warships while Gorgon promises that spend, spend, spend will be the order of the day...

...then my eye was caught by the story of the German chancellor saying that Gorgon's spending plans are 'crass' I think he said and how Gorgon and his chums have dismissed it...

Then the story of how knife crime has dramatically fallen in areas that are now swamped with police that are searching everybody every five minutes - no shit Sherlock.

And then the 'benefit reforms' which are so clearly headline grabbing re-announcements and while come to shite all...

And then about how the fucking BBC puts such a positive spin on everything that Gogon and his bunch of completely clueless fucking wankers do...

You know, I can't be arsed today, it is all too depressing... I'll get back to my painting...  noooo:

It is indeed a worry when the Krauts seem to have all the right answers.

I mean today, not in the 1930's of course.

I read somewhere recently that when we went to throw the Argies out of the Falklands we had 44 Frigates in the RN. We have now deployed an unarmed civilian ship to "protect" the Falklands as the Navy are down to 17 frigates and can't spare one for the South Atlantic.

As for Germany ~ even in the 1930s they were right about many things ~ OK the loonies were in charge and stuff happened but the ideas of "National Socialism", road building, home building, railways being upgraded etc solved their unemployment problems, fed millions who had no other jobs and solved their economic crisis. We should listen to them. Certainly they have better ideas about solving the current problems than Gordon Brown has.

Re-open the mines and the ship yards. Re-Build our own Navy (not by competitive tendering that gives it to the Koreans) supply us with coal to create power not fvcking wind turbines that will never do the job. Become a powerful nation again by our own efforts ~ Oh and sod Africa, we need the money here. Stop Gordon giving it to every bugger else.

Agreed!

That would seem to be an ideal use for the money - build some ships in the UK with British workers, with British steel, with British components, etc. Not piss it all away on banks...  noooo:

I was up at early o'clock painting today and made the mistake of listening to Today on R4  noooo: My piss boiled off hours ago...

Shouldn't think so but we could be a pleasant little island that nobody would f*ck with.

I really am not looking to see newspaper headlines like the famous "Fog in Channel ~ Continent Cut Off" again but we could do much more to help ourselves in all this.

Instead of pouring money down the drain of Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan we could be building the 3 million homes we are said to need, clearing out the inner city dumps and generally standing proud once more.

We won't of course.

Now they are going to delay the carriers by two years... still build them but build them slower like...

And it won't affect the numbers employed on the project or the cost.  rubschin:

Are they building the carriers in tandem or one first then the other one? I have a sneaking suspicion that if they are being built one at a time the second one will be cancelled part way through the construction of the first.
The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.
