A little more madness from Gordon Brown & Co
« on: November 17, 2008, 11:19:02 AM »
Yes I know it's from the Daily Hate Mail but none the less believable given this Government's track record of spending our money.
In summary the British Tax Payer is picking up the bill for sending asylum seekers back to their home countries from FRANCE as the French claim the illegals were actually trying to reach the UK so it's only fair that we should pay to repatriate them.

I'm probably missing something here but to get to France they had to have passed illegally through Spain or Italy first and then crossed France to reach Calais. Why aren't these others picking up the bill?

A few pointers why:

first of a planned series of deportation charter flights leaving Stansted

It is thought it will leave Stansted with a handful of Afghans being deported from the UK

Britain's decision to share the costs of the flight with France

Yes ~ but why are the countries they came through to get that far not picking up some of the costs as well?

This is a European problem and the EU should pick up the bill ~ they are, after all, the ones who want "open borders"

If the EU want open borders internally it has a duty to protect the "outer ring"

I agree ~ it's a European problem that should be funded by the EU.

I have no doubt that Spain and Italy also spend money on patrolling their waters the cost of which they probably would like the EU to pick up as well.

The thing that gets me is that these bloody asylum seekers queue up in France waiting to jump on a truck to the UK...

The UK even has a 'border' at Calais now where the UK Customs people try and find them hidden away on trucks...

Doesn't it tell you something about the benefits system in the UK that these people are not happy in France but risk capture and deportation to get to the septic isle? Politicians should be able to learn something from that one fact, surely?  Banghead

As my late mother would often say:
