Extraordinary Rendition
« on: June 10, 2007, 06:00:44 AM »
The police, in saying that they failed to find any evidence of US Rendition flights using UK facilities, obviously missed the significance of the Office World receipt for the shredder that the government bought last year.

Although they did comment on the luxurious levels of accommodation enjoyed by the Blair hamster colony and the fact that they were tended by a detachment of MI5 operatives, they were informed that there was nothing unusual with that arrangement.

By all accounts you?d have to be Mr. Magoo to be unable to spot evidence of the flights. Still, no surprise as to the outcome.  noooo:

It is my opinion that, if you ally yourself to a group who choose to wage war in a most savage fashion ~ targeting civilians with nail bombs, kidnapping aid workers for the sake of torturing them and their relatives, cutting their heads off in front of the cameras and then showing those images around the word, then you deserve all that your captors can do to you. If you chose to be a terrorist then you can expect no quarter from those you have declared war upon. If that takes our "civilised society" down to the level of the terrorists then so be it. We, in the West, have not sunk that low yet. We are still not cutting off heads (although I suspect that the fear that we might has been used during questioning).

Let us not forget we are dealing with people who have different values to ours. During WWII the Japanese committed appalling acts against British, Commonwealth and US prisoners. The Japanese have only recently recognised why we were so offended by their actions ~ because their whole mindset was different to ours.

What we hold dear and consider right and proper the fanatics in the Arab world and their "converts" from within the commonwealth and even Britain itself do not. They see these values as a sign of weakness and will use them against us given the opportunity. If "Extraordinary Rendition" has occurred (and I think it most likely that it has, for the purpose alleged) and if the information gained by it has saved one single life on our side then it is worth it. Even if we cannot say that a life has been saved and all we can claim is that we have frightened off one convert to Islamic Extremism by our willingness to embrace some if not all of their own tactics it is still worth it.

Bollox to the namby-pamby Human Rights Brigade who would happily hand our whole country over to these thugs. High time they were also sorted out. They are no better than those who sided with Mosley and his thugs and that includes the Daily Mail and Evening Standard.

I sorry but I totally disagree Snoopy.

We profess to live in a civilised and lawful society but as soon as we choose to bend or ignore those rules we lose the right to claim we are in fact civilised.

Extraordinary Rendition is doubly wrong in that the US kidnap people they suspect (some straight off European streets) and then move them to countries where they imprison and torture in a way that wouldn't be permited in the USA.

Embracing the tactics of terrorists just makes us terrorists.

The ends do not justify the means.

We can, I am sure, agree to differ on this one.

Of course, once you permit your government to use these extraordinary means, the terrorists are only the first in line. At some point the State will start using them on their own citizens.

I rather though they did already ~ Only they call it "Sectioning" "Health and Safety" "No Smoking in 'Public' Places" "No Demonstrations within a mile of Parliament" "Arrested Under Anti Terrorism Acts for calling Jack Straw a liar" etc etc. ;)

AAAAAAAAARGH!! MY EYES MY EYES  sick2:

The problem I see with extraordinary rendition is that it makes more of a statement for the extremists to use "Look at the American devils kidnap innocents off the streets for torture".

It had a different name back then but a similar technique was used by the US during vietnam and was one of the reasons why the resistance was so strong.

You would think that they would have learned that lesson.
