And there is logically no reason why we couldn't build a new version using latest technology to make it even better. It would be a world beater but like every other good British design we would rather consign it to history and buy something that the French, Germans, Spanish and Italians also have ~ all countries I might add with whom we have been at war many times in the past and probably will be again in the future.

Awesome machine...

Unfortunately, due to some mechanical difficulties they now need much more cash to prevent her being grounded again...  sad24:

It should have made an appearance at Goodwood yesterday.

Surely there is money to be found somewhere to keep it flying. Its a piece of history so what about lottery funding or the heritage fund.

Unfortunately the MOD and government wouldnt look at building a modern version just because of hte cost of development. "Yes it probably would beat the hell out of anything else in its class if it was built but why spend money (and create jobs) when we can buy something that has already been proven."  cussing:

I knew there was something.... this lovely lady (not my photo, I wasn't near the camera) flew by my place last Sunday on its way to the nearby Carfest, gave me goosebumps. I was reminded just now when they announced that it's making an appearance at Bournemouth airshow this afternoon  cloud9:

It was certainly programmed to be there today. Next Saturday is its last outing of the year for it at RAF Leuchers Air Show in Scotland

Worked on those babies in the very early seventies! Poetry in motion!

In my RAF Days if it had propellers it was fuelled with AVGAS. If it had jet engines it was fuelled with AVTUR. (Exceptions like Tiger Moths etc, often flown by Station Commanders, were fuelled with ordinary petrol taken from the same pump as those used to fill the cars.)

BM is right in that NATO and the international oil companies have renamed the various fuels and grade them according to the type of aircraft, whether or not it is launched from the ground or at sea etc but the basics are the same .... it is all very highly refined kerosene.

Most jet engines, if it burns  and is thin and isn't petrol, it'll work! Excludes paper etc
