Spall was excellent (as always) but the movie lacked point or direction IMHO....  noooo:

This sums up my thoughts....

Quote from: Amazon
There is no doubting that some of the scenes in this film are beautiful and provide a great backdrop and insight to Turners work. This film will also be remembered for Timothy Spall's brilliant portrayal of the man himself, however, as a film to sit back and enjoy it falls short of the mark. The film feels like it is aimed at the critics who will examine and delight over the small details and technicalities but for the average viewer who wants to delve into a flowing film and well told story it does not do the job. I feel this film does not match the hype.

Finally got round to watching 300 Rise of an Empire.

Set as a companion piece/sequel to 300, the story pitches Themistokles of Athens (complete with an accent so bland that it makes Sean Connery's in the Hunt for Red October seem like a work of art) against the Persian general Artemisia who can only be described as an insatiable, self loathing, psychotic goth. Although it tries to use the same visual style film itself doesn't have the same feel as 300 and feels more like a series of very well choreographed CGI battle scenes than an actual story although Eva Green's performance as Artemisia is certainly worth a look.

The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.
