Broadsword calling Danny Boy .... Broadsword calling Danny Boy ........  lol:

You're right Nick ~ absolute crap movie.

I watched one on TV the other night that I had never bothered with before.
"Force Ten from Navarone" ..... what a load of bollox!

We used to like these things so I suppose the older we get the more discerning we become.

We have grown used to modern special effects and CGI.

Much older films used to use pigs blood but the Actors Unions put a stop to that, so I am told. Not that we noticed as they were mainly in Black and White.

What is it about B&W movies that makes them more exciting I wonder .... I much prefer them.

Film version of books are always a risky proposition unless you can get a director who absolutely loved the original work. The only ones that seemed to have worked that I can think of are the Bourne series, the Lord of the Rings series, The Colour Purple (as far as I can remember, its been a while since I read it) and if you really want to stretch it 300 and The Watchmen (yes I know they were graphic novels but the principle still stands).

The universe is run by the complex interweaving of three elements. Energy, matter, and enlightened self-interest.

Much depends on the actors.
Force Ten from Navarone had Robert Shaw (who I have never rated ... See Jaws) who was too old and too over the top trying hard to be a British Officer a very young Harrison Ford as an American Officer who was so far above the rank of anyone taking part in such an operation and Edward Fox looking far too old to have serving in the war and with an old Etonian accent that certainly would not have been used by anyone of the rank of sergeant in the British Army. They just got the whole thing wrong.

Watched Le Boucher the other night, a Chabrol tribute I guess.  A film that Hitchcock said he wish he'd made, fine praise indeed  8)
