Inflation
« on: May 13, 2008, 07:11:16 AM »
What does Gordo say it is? 3%? I have some news for him.

Went to fill my car up last night. It's a diesel and I haven't done any long trips recently, so I haven't filled it up for ages.

Filled it right up and went to pay.

"That will be £78."

 eeek: eeek: eeek: eeek:

"Impossible"

I wnet out to look at the pumpy thing.

£78  eeek: eeek: eeek:

I am being robbed!

Yes!

Like you I haven't been far of late, although I no longer have a diesel, so haven't filled up for some weeks.
I did see the little warning light on the dashboard a couple of days ago and pulled into my usual filling station. For the first time in my life the £s were higher than the Ltrs  eeek:

I still don't understand how they can caluclate inflation at such ridiculously rates. Housing, gas, electricity, food, petrol, public transport the basics of life are all more than 3% up. Maybe I'm just thick but I really and truly don't understand how they arrive at such a pathetic figure.  noooo:

Three things:

1. They're very selective  ::)
2. They're in denial  ::)
3. They're rather fond of telling porkies (aka Spin)  ::)

The "headline" rate which allegedly includes housing costs is 4.2% according to the Govt today.

The most annoying thing is that it was all so predictable.
Gordon Brown has, for ten years since he inherited a sound financial situation, been throwing money around like a drunken sailor on shore leave in Portsmouth. No provision was made by "Prudence" for the inevitable downturn in the country's fortunes. Everybody, except apparently Gordon Brown, knows that world finances are cyclical. Things will improve again ~ personally I believe we are nearly at the bottom now and for a couple of years we will bump along on the bottom and then things will look up again. The downside of that is that whoever gets in to power in 2010 will claim that any improvement is their doing when, in fact, it will be nothing of the sort.

End of serious moment.

Just a thought Nick but have you considered converting hte car to biofuel. Then you could save money by getting the old oil from restaurants at a fraction of the price.

You could always ask BM to send you over a constant supply of his homebrew. That would probably run the engine................for a while at least.
