As I mentioned recently a distant cousin who I had never met but with whom I had corresponded regarding our shared interest in researching our Family Tree (we share a Great Grandfather for anyone who cares to work it out) came to visit North Wales (Llandudno) together with her husband for a "mini break" and took the opportunity to call in and meet me and mine. We spent a splendid three hours of swapping notes and anecdotes following which they set off back to Southampton. She called me over the weekend to tell me that she had successfully carried out some research in the Southampton Archives that I had asked her to do and to report that, on arrival home, they had found among the usual accumulation of mail a letter from North Wales Police, enclosing a snapshot of their car. Also enclosed was a fixed penalty fine for exceeding the speed limit by some 6mph. The fine notice also demanded the driver's licence be surrendered in order that 3 penalty points might be placed on it.
An accompanying letter made the offer that the driver could avoid the penalty points by voluntary attendance, at his/her expense, at a one day "Driver Awareness Course" to be held in North Wales. The fine would be commuted to a fee (coincidently of exactly the same amount) for attendance on the course. All expenses of travel to the course, accommodation and return to home would, of course, be the liability of the driver.
Rather than pay out the costs of travelling to North Wales, staying overnight, and travelling home again they decided to go for the points on the licence option.
Those travelling this way ~ YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED ~ The welcome in the hillsides is a cash cow being assiduously milked by the Mad Mullah of the Traffic Taliban ~ who, to judge from this picture, cannot even put his hat on straight.
