Mrs Tel bought me a Creative box which has to be linked to an amp. Doesn't do stereo though.

For the technically minded…

I’m using a Systemdek IIX with a Linn Basik Plus arm.

I’m feeding the phono output to a Meridian 562V which I am using as a preamplifier. The Meridian allows me to programmatically change the gain of the analogue input to the A/D converter and the output from the DAC (all the internal processing is handled digitally).

I’m then taking the output from the DAC to a Creative Soundblaster Live! 24-bit card in the PC. Theoretically, I could take the digital output from the 562V directly to the SPDIF on the SB but I don’t have the right cable.

Then I am using LP Recorder ( http://www.cfbsoftware.com/default.aspx  ) to capture the WAV file and LP Ripper to separate the tracks and convert to MP3 files.

rubschin: I accept that this is a stupid question but wouldn't it be easier just to play your old vinyls on a record player, your old cassettes on a cassette player and your CDs using a CD player like normal people?

No Snoopy...  noooo:

My multi-room music system only feeds on MP3 files and most certainly not on a record player or cassettes....
