Correspondents
« on: April 23, 2008, 09:04:33 AM »
We may have discussed this before but it wound me up today… um listening to ‘Today’ funny enough…

Scenario
The newsreader girl reads the news article… some shite about flood plains this morning and then introduces the ‘Science and Nature’ correspondent. The SNC obviously knows shite-all about flood plains but acts the ‘expert’ by treading out the research that some overpaid university professor who has managed to scrounge an outrageous grant out of some government department for researching the blindingly obvious.

Next up is an article on pie-eating women having boys and anorexic women having no kids at all or girls. Over to the ‘women and babies’ correspondent who may well be a pie eater or anorexic for that matter but she too reads from some over priced and unnecessary ‘research’ paper.

What is the point… we pay the newsreader to read the news… let her earn her money for the half an hour she has to ‘work’ every day by reading out the research too… and sack all correspondents except those in war zones that actually earn their crust…  cussing:

Back on topic ~ I guess that a 'Science & Nature' correspondent would have been employed because they have a grounding in science and thus could be expected to know whether or not they're reading tosh or not.

Which is why I always tried to deter students with journalistic ambitions from doing Media Studies. The idiots. If they know about some other subject (See Evan Davies and his Economics training for example) then they are qualified to talk about the subject. If you wanna get into journalism get to be an expert on something! angry037

But they don’t know anything about it… they just read the report, there is no incite or questioning of the facts…

Even the economics correspondent gets a man that knows from the city in if there is to be some discussion.  noooo:

You are the Late Brian Johnson and I claim my white fiver and a slice of the chocolate cake sent in by Mrs Snodgrass of Surbiton.
