A close run thing in Zimbabwe
« on: March 29, 2008, 08:10:14 AM »
I see the Zimbabwe elections have started. I wonder who will win?

"I've been here since five to three this morning," Harare voter Mathias Chimutsi told AFP news agency. "I am here to vote because my belly is empty."

mmm. But wait :

"This time round the whole world is watching and there are chances that it may be very difficult for [Mr Mugabe] to manipulate the will of the people."

If he does lose the election he is hardly likely to go quietly. I predict a bloodbath.  noooo:

I see a bloodbath looming here and when it starts I fear it may spread throughout Southern Africa, if there wasn't enough trouble in the north of the continent.

I am soooooooooo sorry ~ I thought this had been mentioned before but couldn't find it. I have merged the two threads under a combined title to avoid further confusion and to give due credit where it belongs.

They've already found evidence of voe rigging in rural areas though, villages are voting far in excess of the population in that area and votes are also being cast under names of people who have been dead for decades. (The only reason that was caught was that someone decided to use the name of a fairly well known politician from years back who was still 'legally' registered to vote).

Despite the rigging Mugabe will know the game is up. He is activating his Swiss bank account and his private jet

I'm not so sure, the military have already said they wouldnt serve under anyone but Mugabe so even if he loses the election I can see a coup in the offing.

The military will serve whoever pays them. The senior military who have benefitted most from Mugabe have everything to lose so they will be saying things like that ....... they will have been "Only obeying orders" when the nooses are round their necks.

Well the reports are now saying that Zanu-pf have lost their majority. I puty the poor bugger that has to tell Mugabe the good news.

I see Milliband has pledged our unconditional support to the country, well that's understandable I suppose. After all we have so much in common. A leader who has come to power and remains by dubious means despite making a total abortion of the economy. Allegations of corruption all through the government........
