A guy I was working with on a project where we had identical roles revealed he was making twice as much as me (we were on day rates).

I mentioned this to the project manager who said we shouldn’t be talking about this!

I had known him for 30 years, we were good mates and frequently saw each other.

I got a pay raise

A couple of us got promoted to roles with the word 'director' attached. I didn't ask for a pay rise but I got one but the other guy said we weren't paid enough so went and caused a bit of an animated discussion and he got a significant further rise.

Which they then gave to me as well

. And 2 years later he'd been eased out and I was earning even more (but fucking working for it) and had bought my first ever brand new car.

Top tip: don't get shitty with your bosses, it never ends well.
