That is a distinct possibility. I note the sons have recently given up work.

It’s hard to believe that the sons didn’t know…

I mean birthdays and Xmas and stuff they must have noticed that mum wasn’t exactly grief stricken…  noooo:

I wonder if CJ had anything to do with it?

verb

To refuse to recognize or acknowledge: deny, disacknowledge, disavow, disclaim, reject, renounce, repudiate. Idioms: turn one's back on. See accept/reject.

Seems to cover it for me

Yes I know all that but IMHO it is still a damn silly expression ~ and overuse in this context makes me think two things. That the sons are busy organising their own lifeboat and secondly that it is being bandied about purely for dramatic impact, which it will rapidly not have if they keep it up.

Mrs S#1 used to frequently fall out with members of her family and would announce that she was "Washing her hands of them" ~ again I understood what she meant but I still felt that to be a silly phrase as well ~ particularly as she said it so often of so many that (i) it lost all impact and (ii) she must have had the cleanest hands in the country.

Now we hear he was living in a bedsit in the family home hidden behind a wardrobe!

And why do they keep calling him a "canoeist"? It's hardly a profession, is it?

I 'spect their lawyers have advised that "Fraud" might lead them into trouble with the courts if this ever gets that far ~ though from the safety of Florida the "Red Tops" interviewing Mrs Canoeist are certainly creating enough ammunition for any defence barrister to be able to argue a case for dismissal of any charges that may be brought .... which may of course all be part of the plan. Devilish clever these canoeists ~ devious too.  whistle:

He should have pissed himself instead of rushing out to the loo – I would have laughed at that…  whistle:

I did like the way that Jack Dee slapped him down a couple of times and the look of disbelief that Paul Merton maintained throughout ~ Hislop clearly thought the guy was nuts.
