We may have touched upon this subject before but I have now signed up and make no apology for bringing the subject up again.

A couple of weeks ago a manager here asked me if it was possible to block access to facebook on our network. No, sez I, this is a Mickey Mouse/Lego network and such things are not possible without buying software or reading the manual. He went away disappointed but not before giving me an idea of just how much time is being wasted by facebook addicts.

Then Mrs TG signed up and spends hours on it.

So I have now done so to see what all the fuss is about. (creepily, it instantly added Mrs TG as a 'friend' without a by your leave from me as soon as I made the final sign up click  scared2:)

For a Billy no mates like me a 'social networking' site should be about as much use as a trap door in a canoe. However, it seems i know more people than I thought I did. Within hours I have had made 'friends' with people I had forgotten I know and had hilarious (not) oddities posted on my 'funwall'  eeek:

I don't think I will become an addict although I can see the attraction for some. Anybody else on it?

I think my cat wants to kill me...

I'm not sad!!!

Although I am spending less time on there now. Once I found everyone and knew what they were up to now it sort of lost interest for me.

As I say, i dont think I will become an addict. As a proffessional IT gonk there is only so much computer related junk one can take.  surrender:

On a brighter note we are having new servers and software in next year and I am going to REALLY popular when I block facebook and Fleabay.  lol:

You may be offered 'favours' to allow some parties access. eyes:

As to the basic idea of Facebook, I have read about it and seen how daughter #2 uses it and it is not for me I'm afraid. noooo:

Difficult for a manager here (let alone an IT bod) as the MD is one of the worst offenders. Couple of years ago I asked for a thousand pounds to deploy network monitoring / blocking software. He refused. Even after I presented him with a breakdown of internet abuse (excluding his (and mine!)) I had built up while running a demo version of the software for a week.

This is why I can post freely on here during the day and in the last hour I have seen 2 other people on facebook from where I am sitting. There are only 9 people in this office.

Christ alone knows what else goes on on PC's scattered around the company.

So he bought the software then?
