We keep general files 7 years after the date of the last correspondence and accounts files 10 years. That's standard business practice. For personal records some things (mortgage documents, bank statements, insurance claims, divorce papers etc I don't throw away, I only keep receipts for large items and then only while I have the item.

I've lost all my bank statements, pay cheques, bills etc. in the tat mountain!
point:

No actually. They are all filed as soon as they arrive in the pretty file then once a year they get transfered to the big ugly files. So  point:
I pile all my bills, receipts, etc. in a big pile on Mrs. Barman's desk so  point:

Mr Wench piles them on mine.  sad24:

Because I want to get rid of some of mine. I only have ten years worth and I think they take up too much space.  eeek:

My accountant told me 6.

Tough titty now then if the Inland Revenue want to see them. Everything gets incinerated after 6 years now. I haven't got the room for all this shite.
