Meltdown in Poland.
« on: October 30, 2026, 10:35:08 PM »
It's starting to look like Donald Tusk is trying to carry out a constitutional coup while the President is out of the country.  eeek:

He's suspended the chief justice, taken over the constitutional court and deployed riot police around the building.

His X feed comments over the last couple of days are bloody terrifying, it sounds like he's not going to let the government leave the EU no matter what it takes.

The previous government corrupted the judiciary, Tusk is trying to correct that.

Separation of judiciary from the executive is a key tenet of democracy
Well, whatever, nevermind

There are taken directly from Tusk's X feed. Sounds less like trying to correct a corrupted judiciary and more like trying to force a result he agrees with.

I will not allow the right wing to take us out of the European Union. That’s what the game is about today.

Jarosław Kaczyński has just announced that Poland should begin negotiations on the terms of exiting the European Union. This is one of the stakes, among others, in the battle unfolding in Poland today. A tough battle. I do not intend to lose it, even if not everyone plays along with me.

Tusk is an EU puppet... It is nothing to do with Democracy - quite the opposite in fact.

As elsewhere in the EU, Democracy is being thrown under the bus to stop the 'wrong' politicians gaining power...

The 'EU issue' there arises only because having a politicised judiciary is incompatible with European Council membership and as a result, EU membership.  The opposition in Poland want that politicised judiciary more than EU membership and have been using their current dominance of that top court to block reforms.  That's undemocratic.

It's a mess and has been so there for a fair few years now with increasing 'get your house in order' comments from other EU nations.
Well, whatever, nevermind

Democracy is about doing what the people want, shirley...? It is even in the name.

Unelected Tusk wants to do what the EU wants, not what the people of Poland want.

The rise of the right across Europe is the direct result of the EU and its puppets doing what the EU deems good - not what the people want. Because the people really don't want mass immigration and high energy costs.

Tusk was elected in 2023

A politicised judiciary is a mechanism to deny what the people want, it's very undemocratic.  That's why the Council of Europe (not same as the EU) opposes it and why Putin and other dictators have politicised judiciary.

In this specific case the previous government knowing it would lose the 2023 election appointed judges to their top courts in order to frustrate the will of the incoming government.
Well, whatever, nevermind

Well no...

He wasn't elected by the people, he was elected by parliament. The people can't elect the Prime Minister so he can become a dictator elected only by his fellow bureaucrats.

He is an EU puppet who will impose the will of the EU wether the people like it or not... It will end in tears.

He was elected as PM by the elected MPs

Just like Hume, Callaghan, Major, Brown, May, Boris, Truss, Sunak and Burnham were here.

Well, whatever, nevermind

Something I noticed going further back through Tusks X posts. EU member states are severely limited in individual trade deals with non EU members as they are controlled by the bloc to  to maintain the integrity of the EU single market.

With the Deputy Prime Minister, we're launching an economic offensive in India and Vietnam. Poland is going after new opportunities and no one will stop us!

Neither India nor Vietnam are EU members and I find the "and no one will stop us!" line an interesting choice of words.
