First World problems thread
« on: January 20, 2026, 11:07:04 PM »
A starter:

So today put the toaster on and bang all the downstairs power goes off.  The RCD in the consumer unit has detected a leak to earth (it's supposed to)

So a thorough cleaning of the toaster - jeez how many crumbs can one toaster contain -  and another try and deja vu (bang all the downstairs power goes off.  The RCD in the consumer unit has detected a leak to earth)

And again  Banghead

Finally we detect a small crumb by the element, long tweezers remove it and all is wonderful again
Well, whatever, nevermind

After we moved into the new house, about a week after we were looking for the outside light switch... Finally found it and the garden area lit up - for about ten minutes.

Then everything went black. Checked the Consumer Units (we have three or four if you count the one in my Man Cave) and nothing had tripped...

Ended up walking up the road (100m) to the main fuse box which had tripped - 3 x 35A breakers in there.  eeek:

Needless to say, the outside lights have not been switched on again...

Electrician is on the list anyway to upgrade everything to latest standards (is it 30mA or something now?) but until then we live with it...

#2  People with tiny cars and very tiny minds

You're driving round a car park trying to find a space and then you spot one and zoom to it only to find someone has parked their Nissan Microbuttock* at the very back of a space leaving 4 feet of more free at the front of it just to confuse you.

 Banghead

* other tiny makes and models of cars are available

Well, whatever, nevermind

Germany bans remote control heating on cars.  https://www.facebook.com/nutsballsandfannies/posts/-over-100000-toyota-lexus-owners-in-germany-just-got-a-chilly-surprise-their-car/1308268177997158/

Apparently they have a law that bans having the engine idling in a car if it's not moving and so decided to tell Toyota to remove the function from the App.  And Toyota complied.

I hear they may now back down but it's still going to be illegal whereas having the engine running to defrost the car while you scrape it is OK.  ::)

Memo to self: NEVER live in Germany

Well, whatever, nevermind

I needed some button cells (CR2032) for remote controls...

Couple of shops I visited on my travels were sold out which probably means there are none on the island.

So, off to Amazon Germany.

They do a five pack for €4.59 which is probably cheaper than the local stores...

This product can not be shipped to your location

Often happens with battery stuff or bulky items... ::)

So I bought the 10 pack for €7.79 instead...  lol:

And another:  the 'Whiffaway'   https://www.whiffaway.com/

Some idiot invented and patented this waterless urinal system which with less maintenance obviously appeals to accountants and the like who rarely have to travel.

It has only one flaw:  it don't won't.  I would like the whole Whiffaway senior management team to have to hold its meetings in the Charing Cross station men's loos (aka Ammonia city - other locations are available)  sick2:.

Sellotape.

It has the strength of Tungsten when you are trying to unwrap a package without a knife or scissors...  Banghead

...and the strength of wet toilet paper when you are trying to tear a strip of it off the roll.  evil:

Not to mention the camouflage skills of an Artic Fox when it comes to trying to find then end on the roll!  cussing:
